Can you please rate my website design?

Hey everyone,

Recently I started reading about web design and html/css and I have built my very first website. I've built many websites before, but this one is special because I started it from scratch using html5/css3. After html5 I converted it into a wordpress theme in hopes of giving it out as a free theme. It has theme options, custom homepage slider settings, customizable homepage, and I even added shortcodes. This was a complete learning project for me and I'm really happy with where it has gone.

I'm wondering if you guys can give me some pointers on how I can improve, and whether or not I should add it as free wordpress theme to the wordpress directory.

        Hey so out of the 29 errors I was I fixed it, but when i went to check my css file it gave me 600+ errors. Most of them are from the bootstrap framework.. Is this supposed to happen? Should I not use Bootstrap?

          I'll be brutally honest, because that's what I would want. It's bad. And not because your HTML or CSS is bad, which it is, but because it looks bad. If you're looking to make a free theme (i.e. you want to sell themes) then look at this one. It is hands down the best one on the market. Bar none. Easy to work with and it can be completely customized. You can put sites together with this theme that the theme maker/owner doesn't recognize as his theme. Look, learn, and adapt. Then you'll have something that will sell.

            Hey thanks for the honesty.

            Like I said, this is a learning project and actually my intentions were never to sell any theme at all. This was to see if I could take html5 to a wordpress website. The theme options, shortcodes, widgets etc were extra because, again it was a learning project. My intentions were to learn, not sell. The reason I asked if it would be a good free theme is because I was kind of impressed (since its my first website ever) at the quality of work that turned out. Maybe I was mistaken :/ but the point is I wasn't trying to sell anything. Just trying to learn, and I thought I could give the theme away for free since I got so far with it.

            I'm sorry for any misinterpretations I may have caused with my earlier post. Hopefully I made it a little bit more clear

              No reason at all to be sorry. If indeed this was your first website ever, then congratulations. I didn't mean to be too harsh. I would say that very, very few people try to turn their first attempt at HTML into a wordpress theme. In fact you might be the first in the history of wordpress.

                Thanks It is my first website that I coded from scratch. I taught myself html and css reading books and this website was to test my abilities. I wanted to challenge myself further by learning about wordpress themeing since I've built websites before using wordpress themes so I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to build one from scratch. I'm impressed with where I got and I was just looking for opinions of other people and whether or not I should release it as a free theme.

            It looks like a rainbow barfed inside a generic template.
            But on the good side, it's not so lost as to be trashed. It can be worked with.

      Hey thanks for tip. Thanks for the markup validation website as well that was very helpful. I'm going to fix the errors and read more about semantic code that someone suggested in another forum.

    Hey thanks for the comment. I did try making my website responsive but since this is a learning project for me, i was having a little bit of trouble getting it to work so I decided not to include the responsive feature. I am however in the process of reading an ebook that covers responsive and mordern design so hopefully I can start working with responsive design soon

      Yeah I have also used themes from themeforest.net, saves a lot of time and you can always tweak the styling to suit your needs.

    Not bad, but i think you should make a mobile version of your theme or make your theme responsible. a lot of people is using internet from mobile/pad/smart phone.


    also get a TLD not free

      Thanks for the comment and opinion really appreciate it.

      As for the domain, it is tk because I'm not looking to use the domain with anything other than to showcase example websites I build such as this one. No reason to buy a domain for sample websites

      Also zubizubi, I tried to make the website responsive with bootstrap framework, and I had a little bit of trouble. I'm reading more about responsive design/modern web design and I'm hoping to learn responsiveness next and hopefully be able to use it.

    It is a nice theme, but some color correction is needed. Also, mobile version will look more appealing.

      Thank you for the opinion As for the colour, I used a colour scheme, but the website has options for custom colour so it is an easy fix. Also, Responsive design is my next goal; I tried making this website responsive but I had problems with it a little bit.

      I designed and coded this from scratch but the design is inspired off the free theme "attitude". I wouldn't say it is a copy, its more of an inspiration or flattery. I really like the layout of the attitude design so I decided to give it a go for myself.

      Thank you, the colour concept is part of a colour scheme I found online. I really like it. Also, the reason why you may have 'seen' this theme before is because it is inspired by the free wordpress theme "attitude" but changed a little bit to my preferences. Thanks for the comment though, really appreciate it.
