Can someone tell me where I can get completely free images for use in eBook Covers? I appreciate that similar questions have been posted here before, but many of the sites suggested are not completely free. In addition, many sites are not completely clear about the issue of model releases. I need to find completely free images - with model releases where appropriate - does anyone know if any such sites exist? |

Will, stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site may help, although depending on the image, you might still need to obtain permission and model releases. However, they're a friendly bunch, and usually such isn't an issue, more of a formality. Tim. |

Search for free stock photos. You can also use Flickr - but get permission from original author.

There is "free" and "nearly free". When I was looking for free images I have finally bought images on Fotolia, as most of the images offered are very cheap (< 1 euro). So I have prefered paying a few cents and getting a large choice rather than looking for something at 0 cents. Hope it can help.

Will, I sent you a PM and a link to a report that might be of some help to you. Just a thought...if you are worried about "model releases" then perhaps you might want to use some graphics instead of photos. You can find lots of great graphics out there and they don't always have to look "cartoonish" or like clip art from the 90's. There are some talented people out there. |

I am also in a certain predicament. Most sites mentioned here have a restriction on using the free (or paid) images on a template that I plan to sell. Bummer. |

We're talking legit here. I'm sure I could steal any image that comes out on google or any site, but that's not the point.

Yep dude....it SUCKS finding images for templates. You either have to find some free options or shell out for the extended licenses which doesn't make a lot of sense all the time cost-wise. Sending you a PM...I have a report you can take a look at that might help you out.

Guys, for templates - go to Royalty Free Photos, Download Stock Photos and Images Stock Photos Royalty Free Downloads I have called them, and just checked terms this month again, to update an old 2 year old doc of mine. Bigstock will allow templates, but - if you want to create 2 templates using the SAME image, you have to buy that same image twice. Then, you should always flatten your layers so the stock is not easily pulled off, but Royalty Free Photos, Download Stock Photos and Images Stock Photos Royalty Free Downloads is about the only paid stock site that will allow that usage. If you get into Public Domain, that's another story. Wish I had more time, but I'm on a mission at the moment. But, do a search for "public domain images" and read terms on any site you find through that search. .gov sites are always a resource for PD images, even like Welcome to the White House - because as far as I know, anything that holds a .gov is public domain for us in the US. You'll have to be sure to check the site's TOS real good, and make sure that the images are PD, and if they are they are free game for anything you can think up. Open Clip Art Library Drawing Together is another if you need "clip-artsy" type stuff. Open source is like PD - but you have to check which creative commons license they fall under. Above all, NEVER use Getty, Jupiter or Corbis unless you are paying a very large fee for their images. I think the entrap folks with their "free stuff" only to track them down later and fine the crap out of them. So just STAY AWAY from anything that says "free" from those 3 major stock sites. Thanks! Michelle |

If you are NOT creating templates out of the images, and only want to create a good ebook cover, for free images try these two. stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site and www.morguefile.com Since an ebook cover is not the product, the actual ebook is - most stock sites (paid or free) will allow the use of their images to be used on the cover, and as illustrations within the ebook. It's just when you begin to deal with templates that you want to resell that you need to make sure you have the right stock sites to do that. There are other sites, like High Resolution Stock Photography: Download Free Stock Photos and Royalty Free Images that are next to free (because the have really great images for a great price) but if I want FREE I look for either Public Domain material, or I'll go to the two sites linked above. Just be sure to check the terms on any site you look at. As long as you are not reselling the image in any way shape or form, most sites are OK. Please, just stay away from any "free images" from Jupiter, Corbis or Getty. I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. Thanks! Michelle

Uhg, OK last post. Then I gotta get back to what I was doing here, but for good people images... and model release forms. Your best bet is a paid stock site. It's not a "given" that morgufile or stockxchng will have those on record, and it states that in the TOS. Nor is it really a "given" anywhere else for that matter, but your paid stock sites are the way to go. They are cheap enough to deal with if you look at some of the links others have given you. Or, contact Michael Wysmierski. He owns Professional Header Templates He is a member here, and either look up the full name or "Mike Whiz". All he people images on the site linked above were shot by him in Brazil. He's a real sweet guy, and might be able to help you out. Thanks! Michelle |

For book covers you may going to need to use textures as backgrounds. Please feel free to download my high resolution textures.

I agree with Michelle, I also use Royalty Free Images for templates creation. They are the best. You can find thousands of examples on the Web.

for free images what you can do is type in googe "list of sites for free stock images", the list will appear. But don't go for google images as they are not free but are copyrighted and called randomly.
