Hello fellow Warriors,

I have been an inactive reader for many months and decided to join the family.
I am looking forward to sharing and learning.

I am looking for the best tool to make big changes to existing wordpress themes. I know I can use chrome's inspect element option to view the coding and make changes but was wondering if there is a simpler tool which would allow one to load an existing theme and change it.

Thank you for your replies!

I personally use Firefox and the Firebug Web Developer addon.

This is not a good route to go because you can not undo once you saved.

If you make a big changes/customization, better to install your Wordpress offline and edit the files as you desired. It's easy and quick to refresh you site offline to see the changes constantly.

For the tools, I'm on Window and use Notepad++.

Depending how your theme is built you may be able to add the html file for the quote engine to a widget and then ad the widget to the sidebar for header. Otherwise you will need to ad it to the header.php. You may need to add a widget plugin to allow you to ad widgets to the header if you don't want to code it yourself.

Not wise to randomly change WordPress themes, you need to be familiar with their structure. The best place to find out more about the theme development is WordPress site, and finally comes the choice of tools for editing.
