When I do this, my text is not formatted as it was in Word. Is there a trick or better way to maintain the formatting?

Thanks.

I write all my stuff in word 1st and copy and paste it over in to wordpress without an issue.
I'm using word doc.x however, that newest version might have something to do with it.

You could paste it into notepad then re-copy and paste into WP. Putting things through note pad (not word pad) strips out any HTML that got copied over.

The other thing is always save your word doc then re-open it and copy from there. All the final formatting of word is only applied when you save it.

Thanks Patrick. I just realized. I'm actually using Open Office.

Word doc.x? That's an MS Word format?

Whoever copies directly from MS Word... deserves whatever happens

Actually, in your WP admin panel in the new post sub-panel there are 2 [two] options to copy from a stupid word processor that adds garbage code. Namely, there is a W tab/button and there is a T button. (just open the "kitchen sink")

The T button will transform your text into un-formatted plain text (which is, actually, the correct way to input text!) and the W button will keep a reasonable amount of formatting (bold, italic etc.) of your text created in Word...

If you use a tool (WP), learn what features are there in it for you... (just saying)
