How to make headline graphics lighter?

I'm not a Photoshop expert but I do create my own
graphical headlines for my sites.

Now the problem is that despite all trimming, the image
turns out to be 6-7 KB in size and takes 1-2 seconds
to load even on a broadband connection.

How can I make this image lighter, or make it load
faster?

Thanks in advance,
Dean.

Can you show us a screenshot of the image at all? Optimization techniques can vary depending on the kind of image it is, color etc.

Yes that depends on the kind of effects you have used etc. Please show us the graphic so we can better help you.

      Hey guys,

I've got quite a few of that sort, but you can check out
the headline graphic on the webpage in my signature.

The image seems to hold up for a moment, making the empty
image area visible before the image loads fully. That's what
      I'm trying to sort out.

And I'm not using any effects on it either. It's just a plain image.

Well it loaded immediately for me so I didnt see the white space. But I know what you mean.

I see that its a .png file. Try making it a .gif without transparency for faster loading. Since it has no effects and is only 2 colors, it will be lesser than 7kb. Probably a lot lesser.

Let me know how it goes...I would be happy to help.

Yup Zoheb sounds like he's on the money. There's barely anything there, in terms of data, to load at all. I couldn't suggest anything else you could do. I think once you've followed Zoheb's advice that's about as compressed as you could possibly get it.

Yeah dude, that should load FAST. Loaded immediately for me.

Just so reference when you "Save for Web..." you can adjust the type of image it is and the quality before you click the Save button. Hope this makes some sense to you.

GIF is the way to go for smaller, simpler images. Roll with JPEGs when you want some higher quality.

    Dean,

I don't think it's the graphic. 10Kb is quite small. In fact, it's too "light." As a result, the drop-shadow isn't smooth. That's because you saved it with too few colors.

Your problem probably lies with all the scripts that your page uses. When I try to load it, my browser hangs up badly while the "clicktale" script runs. Do you really need all those scripts on such a simple page?

I think 7 kb is enough for your site. If your site running slowly. please check your script. script language like php, javacript, asp and other will make your site running slow
