    There is no best layout, it's really a about what would looks best for your niche and what your are promoting. As long as the information you have about a topic is interesting and fresh you will do fine. You can always change up a theme and tabble with the look as time goes on to enhance the look and feel to the user.

    If a paying customer (with money in the hand) would come to me with such a vague and nonsense question... I'd send him home to do his homework!

    Write down (I mean bring me your notes!) in details what your site should be:
    - plan the strcuture
    - plan the content
    - describe exactly what kind of 'call for action' will be and where
    - figure out what kind of features you need (not how to get them, just name them!)
    - who is your target audience
    - etc.

    Then we can talk about layout... (if you are sure what it means)
