Inspiration Vs. Stealing?

Where do you consider crossing the line from inspiration to flat out stealing?

I've definitely used other sites as inspiration, but I've always been very careful to add enough of my own creativity to make it different enough to where I felt my site was unique.

So, where do you guys see it as stealing, and what techniques do you use when looking at inspiration to benefit from it, but not flat out copy it?

Borrow all of the concept is OK

Copying the text is not OK.

    It's a really a personal choice.

Look at a top selling Clickbank products and decide which one of the "product comparison" sites is the original product comparison for the item are any of them stealing? If so which one

  • Good question here pete,

I would say that sometimes its hard to say where being inspired ends and stealing begins. Obviously copying something completely and re-skinning it to look like yours is probably going to fall into the category of stealing where as using aspects of something you saw once (perhaps without even revisiting that design to look at it again)would be more inspiring.

When you think about it, we are all working off the inspiration of others today and standing on the shoulders of those that came before us. I’m not sure if you are asking this question to know whether what you are doing is stealing or not but I would say try your very best to come up with your own style.

I think lots of people are doing something after looking at what others are doing. Look at something, do the way they do, modify the way you want. That's not stealing, but getting inspired I think.
STealing is when you blatantly copy paste something 100%. =)

Taking something word from word, or using their exact prime example without even putting in an effort to make your own twist. I consider that stealing.
