Hi everyone.

So I've got the domain, got the hosting and started to set my blog up. I'm using the Graphene theme on Wordpress.org and am enjoying playing around with the functionality of it. What I am struggling to do though is set up my header menu how I want it!

I want four header menu tabs, basically set up like this:
1 HOME (My latest posts and an opt in box on the right. All standard stuff so far.)
2 ABOUT (A simple single page with the aims of the site and a bit about me and a good old opt in box.)
3 CONTACT (Simply a contact form, how to get hold of me and another opt in box)
4 FREE UPDATES or FREE RESOURCES (Not sure which yet which you will get once you've opted in of course ;-)

All standard stuff so far.

Now, I'm not an unintelligent man. I've studied business and engineering and consider myself open to new ideas and educated to a good level. But trying to understand how menus, categories and tags all work together is giving my a head ache. No blog post I've read over the last few days or video I've watched can tell me how to set up my header menu in the way I've described above. The only one that gets close is this one:

And as far as my menu is concerned the results I want to achieve look like the ones on these sites:

I'm getting quite frustrated with this now because it is holding me back and stifling my momentum. If you can help I would be eternally grateful! Thank you.

It's very simple, and your not alone in not understanding it It's a little tricky to get your head around.

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Displaying posts to a specific page in Wordpress...
That's the "stupid people explaining stuff they don't understand"-type of video - although I didn't watch it. Judging just by the title the author has no clue about WP's internal working.

First let's go througth your desired setup - and clean it up because it doesn't make sense. Then we will take a look at how to create it.

    1. That's your generic index/main page (not Page as in WP, just 'webpage'). WP by default displays your latest posts on the main page, newest on the top. What kind of gizmos you place in your sidebar (i.e. widgets or code) it's up to you. Hint: in a plain text widget you can copy/paste your AR (=autoresponder) optin form. Done.

    2. Create a Page in WP (not a post but a Page - in WP "Pages" are always named with capital P) - title: About and write your content.

    3. Don't mix them! Contact form is to tell you how nice your site is (or that it sucks), while optin form is to subscribe to your list. Repeat: do NOT mx them. Use a simple contact form plugin. Done.

    4. If you want to allow people to get/access this webpage (or WP Page) ONLY after they opted in... then it's a stupid idea to have it in the Menu for everybody to click on it. Wouldn't you agree?
So, that shouldn't be part of your menu...
That part of the site (let's make it a Page) should be either the thnakyou page or the confirmation page for your list setup - depending on whether it's confirmed optin or not.

As for the wp-admin > Appearence > Menus setup: in a normally(!) coded theme you have the option to select almost anything to be a menu item and be included in one of your custom menus.

You create (and name) your custom menu - on the right.
You add menu items to it -from the left.
You select where (location) will the menu be displayed - top right.
    Save after every step above.

At which step are you encountering difficulties?
