I am no programmer. I used a free theme and added plugins.

I just want to know the overall look, feel, style of my blog!

I'm thinking of buying a paid theme to boost up appearances.

  • Dan,

You have a pretty good start here. If I were you I would loose the ad in the header. Combine the menu at the top with the menu below the logo and tighten up the space between the menu and the top of the page.

    Best,

    Thanks for your response Shawn,

Do you think the header ad does not work well with the site? Or is it that header ads don't generally work well?

And tightening up the space on the top sounds like a sound idea.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    That's okay. I'm not a programmer either.

I think the site looks great. It's got lots of potential.

I would say you have done a great job, color combination is really cool and so as the content but add more contents to your site. Add more images to make it more attractive too.

Invest into a custom logo that matches your header. And, get rid of the Adsense banner at the top of the page. There are more appropriate spots than inside your header for these ads adn that's not really the best converting position for ads anyway. You could always move your Adsense down, so that it appears a few lines above each blog post. This would be more visible yet leave your header in tact with no obtrusive banner ad.

Also, what about including a list of relevant blog posts in the place of your first blog post. You might be able to add a widget of useful links to blog posts you have written in the past. This would provide a handy guide for the new or returning visitor, rather than just showing a snippet of your latest blog article. You might even be able to find a widget that provides random links, based on what the site visitor has viewed before. Just a few ways to target your reader better.
