How to estimate the true price of a premium domain under auction?

OK, I am in an auction for a 6-letter .com domain. This word is a common word but doesn't have much commercial value. I try to compare this "word" and very common words like "dog", "men", "news", and this particular "word" is much lower in search volume (ie: 1/20th search volume as "news" and 1/5th search volume as "dog". It is, however, comparable to the search volume of the less (but still very) common words like "health".

This 6-letter "word" has 22200 global month searches, CPC = 0.41, and low competition. Other domain names as variation of this "word" for example, "4-letter word""6-letter word".com's are selling between 1000-3000 set price, but I always get an intuition that they might be inflated by sellers.

I don't have a set plan of what the site will be given that domain, but this word is very related to my interest (related to my grad study research in a general sense) and I am thinking in long term I can build an ambitious site off this domain.

I was just messing around on the auction, I have placed some offer as $2000, and the seller actually counter-offered at a lower price at ~$1500. To me up to $1500 is affordable (though it's still a lot of money, but the "word" has the potential to pair with other lucrative areas, so maybe in a long run it will pay-off), but is there any way or tool to help estimate the value of a domain name?

My apology, the seller didn't make a lower counter offer from my original $2,000, he made a counter offer of $1,590,000. This guy and Godaddy (who I think deceivingly listing this domain name at $65 as current bid) must be on crack.

It's just stupid these people greedily grabbing domain names without the intent to put the work themselves into building something useful could remotely think this is acceptable to trick people's money.
