Quick story:
I bought a site from a guy who had his WP site on hostgator and I have Go Daddy. For some reason he cant, or just refuses to get me the site. He says he cant figure it out.

So how can you download all his files as a backup and zip them then email it to me so I can do it.

Or is there an easier way for him to set it up...it sounds like he is not to savvy on this stuff and I never had to transfer a site.

The methods are in the WordPress Codex:

    Moving WordPress « WordPress Codex

I have done these numerous times and as long as you follow correctly, there should not be too many problems.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Even better, get the admin login for WordPress, install your own cloning tools, there a bunch of them out there and get your own backup to download.

If you already paid him for the site then give him a time limit like 2 days or file a charge back as you have not received goods/services.

Once you gain access to that site WordrPess admin you can get your own backup in minutes. Hope that helps ...

I use Xcloner, it's free, and it will do anything the paid plugins do. The whole site, or just the database.
    Non-Wordpress sites as well.
Create automatic backups with the built in XCloner cron script,
Backup to Amazon S3 cloud or Dropbox

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

What UMS said...I use Duplicator personally and it's the best (read easist) WordPress migration solution.

I must say though OP, that going from HostGator to GoDaddy is like moving from the upper class suberbs to the the lower class hood.

I wouldn't recommend it. I'd get myself my own HostGator hosting package, or BlueHost, or WebHostingHub or any other decent hosting company that uses cPanel. GoDaddy's the worst. I'm sure others on here would agree.

I'm felling generous at this exact moment in time, so if you want to reach me via my signature and I'd be willing to migrate it for you. No cost.

      Aside from that...good luck.

Why is Go Daddy so bad? I used them on other sites and never had any issues but I do hear they suck and hostgator is better????

Their control panel is proprietary and it's not intuitive. It makes it difficult to do normal things like setting up databases, subdomains, add-on dmoains, emails, etc.

With that said, they've been steadily working on improving that, and to be honest, of late their UI has vastly improved. I get to see their progress, because I get a lot of clients who use GoDaddy as their hosting provider, but I prefer and recommend cPanel, which is essentially the industry standard and easier to manage.

More importantly, their servers are slow. I'm guessing they improved on that as well, but a WordPress is slower on a GoDaddy server than it is on a HostGator server. Typically.

If anyone has different experiences that I outlined, let me know.
