Just pick any theme you want and get started. It's so easy to change themes that it's crazy to let this indecision hold you back. Get your IM website up and start working it and you will have a better idea of the features you need for your niche.

      100% agree.

Like you, I spent too much time trying to 'pretty up' my site. Then I realised I was wasting time.

I then spent my time adding posts to the site instead, and actually started crawling up the Google charts.

It was two years before I took a long hard look at the appearance, and what I wanted then, didn't remotely resemble what I thought I wanted at the start.

Pick something - work on the site - come back to the theme later.

Believe it or not, there are some pig ugly sites out there, which are making VERY good money.

Beauty is only (theme) skin deep.

Exactly right. If you are in the first week of your site, have less than 100 visitors and you've spent more than 15 minutes looking at themes, rearranging your widgets, etc - then you are wasting time.

Focus on content and promotion. Once you have steady traffic or a couple sales then go back and make your site look pretty.

It's too easy to get sucked into the the things that don't have an impact (but are easy to do / fun).

          Hi All,

It is the best practice to start work on your website, instead of wasting time in selecting the theme. I am totally agree by the views shared here by other readers. Also, i would like to suggest that, if you can clearly explains about the services offered by your website, then it would be more beneficial for us to suggest you regarding appropriate theme.

          Thanks.

I've found a couple of themes recently just by doing a Google Image search based on keywords relating to the kind of look and feel I wanted for my sites. This seems to be quite effective at pulling out screenshots of related themes.

e.g. Google "money making wordpress theme" or something.

There are some very nice free themes out there. Just look out for sneaky inclusion of advertising in them!

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone on this thread. I do web design for a living and STILL, searching for the right theme gets me every time. So many times, i say screw it and create my own theme. Like everyone here suggested, work on your content and get it out there. My suggestion... try the 2012 default theme to get started. I think they had a winner there. If you need help getting a custom logo in there, PM me, I'll send you the code.

  • (Think big picture) stop using themes. And go custom my friend
The design should design the concept your trying to convey.

I use one of the WordPress.org hosted and developed themes and create a child theme based on one of them. That is in my opinion the best basis for developing a website for any niche.
Installation of a custom header image is simple and will set your site apart from the crowd.

Once you choose a wordpress theme you need to make sure the one is suitable for your topic.
And then it is safe, clean and easy to use.
The free one I use is Themetify, It is just easy to use, responsive and meet almost all my requirement. That's why I choose it.
