Hi all,

As you know web design does not include necessary logo design (in fact it is even different) and as a result, I would like to know if in order to be more efficient and provide more professional work, I should use a tablet (when working in phostoshop).

Thanks in advance for your help,

Booster

    Hi Booster,

There's a difference between "Website Design" & "Website Development", a big one in fact.

The design process of a website can cover everything from the visual appearance (color scheme, fonts, layout... ) to the user flow.

The development side of things covers all of the coding, which when used in a general sense can mean anything from the front end stuff (HTML, CSS, jQuery...) to the back end (PHP, MySQL, Ruby...).

In terms of design, you could use Photoshop on a tablet but I wouldn't recommend. You are certainly going to be limited and could potentially find that it's more time consuming than it needs to be.

I usually suggest going for Photoshop on the computer, it's an amazing tool and you can get it for quite a reasonable price with Adobe's new Creative Cloud package.

The only person who can really answer your question is you, try Photoshop on your tablet, try it on your PC, see which you prefer and then make a decision based on that.

Apologies if my response went over the obvious, it's directed at anyone who is new to Web Design/Development and is reading it

    Hope this helps,

    Joe Crosbie,

    Hello Joe,

Yes, I know the difference between the web design and web development. My question, was in fact about to know if a web designer can be request by a client to do jobs requesting a tablet (logo, etc...). In my case, I do not use any tablet since I do not offer any logo in my packages.

Why would a client care if you made the logo on a tablet or a PC?

I have an all-in-one that can be a large tablet or a desktop. I always end up using it as a desktop when in photoshop. IMO its features are limited when I use it as a tablet and I have gotten used to drawing freehand with the mouse.

It can come down to what you are used to. So for me I'm a web designer (and IMr) and I've used photoshop on PC for the last 10 years doing all sorts of graphic production. If I went to tablet I would struggle a lot after being so used to a PC. But tablets are very good for those who do a lot of llustration/drawing so the transition is easy going to digital work.

A simple mouse can move in 360 degrees, as well as a pen on a tablet. The only thing that is a pro to the tablet/pen is production time will increase once you get the hang of a tablet. So no you don't need one. Do they help? Yes. I have wacom cintiq monitor. It's very nice for drawing within photoshop etc, but I prefer a mouse when I'm designing points in illustrator.

The bigger and brighter the monitor you use, the less chance of missing annoying artifacts in an image you have manipulated (for example bleed through in transparent png's because the transparent background color was NOT ll exactly the same shade and you didn't specify it properly.

Personally, the Photoshop on tablet form is a lot more compact and doesn't have all of the capabilities of the desktop version which deters me from using it. If you do use it on a tablet, make sure you get a stylus that is pressure sensitive and not capacitive. I would recommend the bamboo stylus. Also, as a former employee of Samsung mobile, I would recommend the Samsung Note series tablets for the fact that they come with a pressure sensitive stylus and some of the Note series come with adobe photoshop pre-installed on them.

    Hi Booster !
Not need tablet for Photoshop. Because Photoshop need large screen therefor you can use normal display monitor and LCD for it. Because the Monitor and LCD display is bigger and brighter then tablet. So use always monitor and LCD for design in Photoshop.

To me as an art director with almost 16 years of working experience it is much more important to generate good ideas and scribble them by hand into a sketchbook. If you than scan that stuff and work on it in PShop, Illustrator and the likes your resulty will improve daramatically! I promise.

To me a tablet is really needed if you wanna do digital illustration or a lot of retouching (especially beauty retouch).

I am not sure which type of tablet you are talking about. There are Wacom type tablets to draw with and Windows tablets to install and run Photoshop on.

Using a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet with a stylus in addition to a mouse is nice but really not needed. I use a Wacom sometimes in my office, but I mostly use my Macbook Air that just has the built in trackpad and a mouse. The tablet is very convenient when you actually draw.I use it a lot with Illustrator and Flash.

I do have a windows tablet with Photoshop installed. I tend to use the tablet the most for everyday stuff. I find a windows tablet very convenient. This is an Asus tablet running an Atom processor. In my opinion it is a little slow for me. I use it to mostly do basic editing of photos on it. But I can design logos too. I have a bluetooth mouse that I use with it. It doesn’t have enough ram to really do extensive work on it. But it is a very convenient tool when I want to go light. I am thinking about the Microsoft Surface 2. It has a very good processor (i5), good enough ram and you can buy it with up to a 512gb hard drive. To use Photoshop on a tablet you really need both a mouse and keyboard since it wasn't designed for tablet use. I sometimes get frustrated because it is hard to use shortcut keys with the built in keyboard. Also using your finger to select is not very precise.

The iPad has a good program called Filterstorm which is similar tonPhotoshop that might work too. A lot of pro photographers I know use it.

I think PC's would be best rather than the laptop.
We always use rough hands while we do work on some project so laptop's are soft in the hardware then the PC's. So use laptop's for your personal use like to mails, social media, skype etc.
