Membership Area with Forum

I'm a non-techie, but I've been able to muddle through building and maintaining my wordpress site so far. Now I'm looking to try something a bit more ambitious and would really like to be able to set it up myself, but am finding it a bit tricky.

What I'm working on is setting up a (paying) members areas to my site featuring various types of content and members-only forum. I've installed bbpress and a plugin called Membership and have been playing around with those. I've set the forum up OK, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with the membership plugin.

Is there perhaps a single plugin that includes both of these functions which would work better?

Any advice would be really appreciated. I've been searching around for a step-by-step guide on how to set something like this up, but I can't find anything up to date and/or at "novice" level.

Thanks

I've made some progress with the Membership app/bbpress set-up and am feeling a bit more confident about the whole thing now.

But it seems like people will have to register twice - once to become members and then again to post on the forums. Anyone know of a way around that?

I'd also like to have a disclaimer page with leading into the membership subscription page - so people have to tick check boxes to confirm that they understand the T&C's etc. I don't want people to be able to join without doing this. Anyone know how I can set that up?

      Thanks in advance.

Unless it is propriety what solution did you come up with membership/forum combo?

Thanks. If you read my reply to lancejay above you should have a good idea of what my issue is. It's just the login element I need advice on. :-)

I am not sure if I really do understand what you are hoping to gather or get around but should my guess be correct, I understand that you want to create a membership website. I have been using Wishlist Member which is easy to get around. I recommend also OptimizePress or S2member or aMember PRO. I have a multiple site license so if you will want to give any of these a try, I can help you with the licensing
Better Still you can make me take a look at your site and get it fixed for you
    Best Regards

Thanks lancejay, that's right - a membership site featuring a forum. I'm happy with the Membership plugin and bbpress, but I'd really like to find a way that when people sign up for membership their login also works for the forum - at the moment it looks like they will have to set up two logins, one for the membership area and once inside that they'll need a second login to use the forum.

I am a fan of aMember Pro. It will do all of things you are trying to do, it has good support and it is very powerful. I believe it integrates with bbpress as well.

It does cost a bit, but worth every penny.

Hello Julia, personally I've had great success with the two that you've already mentioned, to be honest it should be pretty easy to get the two to work together. You basically just need to restrict access to the forum pages to members only (and since both plugins use wordpress users as their...well...users) - it shouldn't be an integration problem in my opinion.

Pm me if you need more help (wouldn't mind lending a helping hand).

    Best,
    Daniel

OK, so here's where I'm at with this now...

I'm (still) using the Membership plugin for sign up/payment and bbpress for the forum.

There are a few things I haven't quite figured out yet and I'd appreciate some advice:

      - I'd like to have disclaimer page with mandatory check boxes which people have to tick before they can access the Membership sign up page. How can I do that?

      - In bbpress, what's the best way to enable people to post images or video?

      - So that my main Forum page isn't static I'd like to display the most recent posts, either in the sidebar or below the list of forum titles. How can I do this?

Here's my Forum in current form, but this is very much work in progress (and obviously won't be visable to non-members once I have everything set up): http://juliabuckley.co.uk/forums/

      Thanks guys.
