HOW CAN I SET UP MY E-COMMERCE STORE TO HAVE STREAMING MUSIC 24/7?

Hi,

I am having a website developer set up a full e-commerce store for me. This store will be hosted by magento.

I wanted there to be live streaming music 24/7 on my website...as soon as someone gets on the landing page, there is music playing, with an on/off button for the music on every page on the website.

I thought I could have my pandora music station for this...but I found out that this would not be possible with pandora.

How can I get this set up? Free live streaming music (commercial free)...a genre of music appropriate for my website (jazz? classical music?)...no issues with rotyalties/copyrights etc...

Can someone help me with ideas? Any examples for websites where this kind of feature/functionality has been set up and working already?

Thank you!

many ways to skin a cat. there will be codes all over the net for this or music players. you could even create a music player on flash for this.

Thanks. Can you provide me with specifics? e.g. on where I can find code for music players with pre-loaded music on the web? I have a developer who is working for me...

Is there some very good reason to have music on your site? If not I wouldn't do it. There's several problems to solve, and probably very little payout. It's possible that the system is just a nuisance to many of your would be customers, who probably also know how to play their favourite tracks from their computers.

Some local shops play schlager and elevator music. Makes me want to run away.

This is a great idea because everybody loves web sites that start playing music automatically when visited.

I am afraid you didn't really think that through. Probably, that's the worst idea you have had in a long time.. although an autostart music without a stop button may trump it

Update: So, streaming music did not work out. I did get a 23min piano solo (royalty free) mp3 set up with the music player in the back end of the site (totally not visible anywhere on the website). There is a on / off button on every page so that folks can turn off the music if it's a nuisance. Soothing piano music while shopping? Why not!

      Any thoughts/feedback appreciated...

It looks like at least one of you appreciated this idea (mojojuju).

The website will be for ladies, shopping for fashion accessories...products ship worldwide (global clientele)...so, there MUST be ladies out there in the world that would appreciate this kind of thing, right? I mean, for those that don't agree, have you some research that you can direct me to as to why this is a bad idea???

      :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm so sorry, but I was being sarcastic. It's an absolutely terrible idea.

Website is not a shopping centre. It's not a 3D space where people haul their bodies around, and where some kind of background noise might be useful or even appreciated.

If you want a handy list of top ten reasons why you shouldn't, here's a random site from the obvious Google search:

The way I see it, you gotta have something different to offer compared to whats already out there...

    Different can be good? Mayhaps.

Why would you want to do that? I am not trying to offend your idea, but background music can be so problematic, remember not everyone may have the right components in their browser to play the music, may also slow things down. I am a web designer and i advise my clients against such things.

That's so 80's. Most people, including me, absolutely hate streaming music on a website. It's an annoying distraction and quite possibly won't even be most people's taste in music. You must be aware that online shoppers can have any music they want playing while surfing. Their choice of music.

      OK folks. You convinced me.

I just instructed my developer to remove the music feature entirely from my website...

Thank you all for your comments!
