Advice.
Had a few requests from people for web sites so decided I would look into it a bit more but the choices are endless.

Should I create my own basic CMS for them to post updates and so on.
Should I go for a already made CMS for them.

What CMS is the most user friendly for them and what CMS is easiest for me to developed my own themes.

I get it all depends on the persons needs but what would be a good platform for most needs.

Thanks

Wordpress. It's the easiest widely used CMS out there.

Regarding building your own CMS, it's good for learning purposes but unless the customer requirements really need you to build from scratch, you can't go wrong with Wordpress. You can build plugins and custom themes with it very easily.

I agree, wordpress might be your best bet. Why spend all that time making something, when you can use one that is already to go, and it's free?

I use to waste so much time coding, php, ect, time I could have used to do better things, like marketing, promotion, ect. Just not worth it if you ask me.

I agree 100% with WordPress, only because it's super easy to build onto and it's pre-secured (for the most part). Plus if it doesn't have all of the features you were looking for you can build onto it since you were thinking of building your own anyways, it would just be less work for you.

If you make your own CMS you'll run into security issues, development issues when things break etc.

Build your own CMS, but only if you're looking for a web programming project. If you intend on getting a site out use an established CMS. Your system doesn't code itself, and it's nice if someone else is developing it further.

I'm using WordPress, but I guess Drupal is also user friendly. Maybe not friendly to a newbie developer, but that's another matter. There are systems that fit better for specific needs such as blog script Ghost.

WordPress themes are actually quite complex compared to many established template systems. Themes contain a mix of PHP and HTML in dozens of files structured in a certain way, whereas other systems may have a single file to edit, and their own template code to use.

Links in signature will not help your SEO. Not on this site, and not on any other forum.

    What's your excuse?

I'd say Wordpress as well. To be honest, most of the time I don't even build themes from scratch anymore, I use the thesis theme which makes it a lot easier to make changes to the structure and appearance.

I don't have experience with joomla so I can't comment on that.
