Wordpress Experts, I need your help about making a certain post to be just the homepage.

Greetings!

How do I make a certain post just be my home page? (alone)

I set my desired post as sticky and then under READING, I only set 1 post. But when I checked my homepage, the sticky post is there, but still there's a post under it.

I guess, the sticky post is not counted when I set it to 1.

0 is not also an accepted value for that.

I hope you can help me on this.

Thanks,
G.B.

Make that a PAGE instead of a POST, then use the READING setting to make that page your home page.

Yes, I am aware of that. But my client really wants a certain post to be the homepage.

I guess I really need to convince her to make it a page instead.

Then the client should write his/her own CMS. Idiot clients always want to tell you (the hired expert) HOW to do things. I, usually, fire such clients... S/he is there to tell me WHAT she wants and I am the paid expert to tell them HOW will we achieve that goal.

          Everything else is just noise...

I can see where you are coming from.

However, I have managed to edit my php files to make this happen.

Spot-on. This kind of clients is truly a headache. But what can I do, they are the ones paying me.

As a non-expert web developer myself, I tried to explain to her about wordpres functionality regarding this, but she insisted since according to her she is following a "SEO ultimate guide." I decided not to comment on that part . So I tried editing the php files based on my research and I finally got it.

Wow, I probably would have just went ahead and made it a page and not told them. =p . Could also make it a page, in addition to having it as a post, if they want it to show up in both.(But of course, you risk duplicate content I guess.)

I hope you are using a CHILD theme, as otherwise you may inadvertently lose all your code changes to a WordPress or Theme update.

@DJL is right, be careful of that!

When I first began working with WordPress, I remember spending days editing theme files so the site looked and worked the way I wanted it to, then losing all of my work after updating the theme...

Really wish I had known of child themes back then!

See this article from the WordPress codex about child themes, it's a lot simpler than it first appears

    Why use a Child Theme?

I chose entrepreneurship over further education despite being laughed at by my friends and family..

I recently hit the "RESTART" button on my life, read my personal blog to find out how I did it :)
