    There is more than one option

    If you have Cpanel it and the person you are selling the website has one too, you can use the full back up option that you find in your Cpanel.

    You can also export all the content of the forum in the form of an XML file. From version 2.1 on you will find the option under:

    Dashboard -> Manage -> Export -> WordPress

    You just need to import the XML file to the other blog.

    Did they also get the domain name and hosting in the sale? If so you should be able to transfer the whole hosting account to them through your hosting provider without making any changes to the site itself.

      @ JTS2005 - Thanks for responding, but can you be a bit more specific. Remember this is my first time ;-)

      @ Luckies - Are you saying I can do this from the Wordpress Admin area?

      @ coog - Yes, they did get the domain which I know how to transfer, but they have their own host.

      Thanks everyone!!

        Yes udoitnow,
        you can export the blog directly from the admin area,
        the exact path on the latest version of Wordpress is:

        Dashboard --> Tools --> Export

        From the Wordpress dashboard:
        Export

        When you click the button below WordPress will create an XML file for you to save to your computer.
        This format, which we call WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
        Once you've saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress blog to import this blog.

          I have the same question-so I am continuing my question here.

          In order to transfer a wp blog- I know you can download posts & content through the wp interface.

          But- how do you transfer the template & plug-ins? Is that through the php-admin in your host control panel?

          Please advise.

          Thanks,
          Deanna

            If you have cPanel, log into the interface and go to the File Manager. Navigate to the top level folder for the domain, you can then select all files and choose 'Compress' from the toolbar. This will compress all files into a zip file, you can transfer the zip to the buyer.

            There's a guide here on how you can backup your WP database.

            Backing Up Your Database WordPress Codex

            Transfer both the zip file and the database to the buyer and they can upload them to their own server.

    Hi,

    If your hosting company has phone support, they can do it for you for free. If not, you may want to hire someone from scriptlance dot com to do it for you for $5-10.

    There are a couple ways you can do this, if you are transfering from cpanel host to another cpanel host, then you can simple create backup and upload the backup to new host.

    Or.

    You can go into your phpmyadmin and export the database your blog is using. Then isntall wordpress on the new host (make sure it is the same version wordpress). Import the exported database from the old host into the new database for the new wordpress website. Just overwrite the excisting one.

    After that is done, if you have any plugins or themese. Just download the themes and plugin folder and re upload them in the new wordpress blog location in the right directory. Go into wp-admin and turn on the plugins and set your theme.

    That should basically cover it, atleast the methods that I would take to do this.
