How many days are needed to get a good knowledge of HTML & CSS by an average intelligent person, if one puts two hours for learning them each day.

I've been developing websites for over 20 years now, I haven't stopped learning! HTML, CSS, and webdesign / development is just like any other trade. There different ways to accomplish the same thing. And to top it off new technology is happening every day, so it's a never ending learning cycle.

Focus on what you want to accomplish. Then learn how to do it one piece at a time. Google & Stack Overflow are your friends!

You'll quickly realize that you will need alot more knowledge than HTML & CSS to accomplish what you want to..

There are also alot of styling and layout frameworks out there that will allow you to speed past learning all the little things that you may never use. Some examples are Bootstrap, 960 CSS, Foundation.

But it all depends on what your end goal is.. Are you wanting to learn to become a developer? Or save money by being able to do everything yourself? Chances are if you're on this forum you are just trying to learn to cut your dependencies on hiring people.

I would say 20 days to get the basics done, and being able to do basic modifications. But when you get there, then you'll see what jpweb was talking about

30 days at that rate to get a good fundamental hag of it. You have to keep it up so whatever knowledge you learn you retain. But 2 hours a day is a really good start.

Best of luck and there a ton of free information everywhere on the net.

You need to start from very basic of html and css. In my you can learn html and css about 40 days if you give 2 hours in a day. Because html and css have some properties and need practice. I suggest you w3schools.com for you because it is the best way to learn html and css. Best of luck.

Pretty fast I think, couple of days and you should know the basic stuff easily. What is your goal? If you want to do any serious web development you probably need to learn some skills in php/javascript too.

    Good luck!

Thank you all for your comments, it really helpful, meaning I can do the learning on my own. And don't need to go to one computer tutorial centre, where one person will be reading the code and writing it on the board from a book right ?

no- you can teach yourself the basics -easily - a great way to learn is by downloading free templates from open source communities and taking them apart and then rebuilding them with what you have learned -
when I wanted to learn table-less design I went to this site:

With Google and sites like W3Schools and Stackoverflow there are a lot of things that you don't really need memorizing exactly. A month should be enough to get a solid foundation for HTML&CSS IMHO. But you probably will want to learn some server side language like PHP to make your knowledge more useful.

Not so many, about 30 to 40 days with a lot of practice you can get all the HTML and CSS basics, and you can learn all by yourself, but going to a computer center/school will help of course  , I recommend learning JavaScript and PHP as well, as they are very popular server-side language, and very important in Web developing.

I've been working with HTML & CSS for around 4 years now, last year I spent a year working within a retail marketing department, which with daily practice taught me the foundations and made them stick. As others have mentioned above, things change everyday and once you've learnt the languages themselves there is a lot to learn about how to use and structure them correctly.

    Hello,
In my opinion, you learn css or html in one month while you give 2 to 3 hours for the learning, doing practice and understand the basics of both html and css. For learning you have to take help from the online site, and some tutorials which are available from where you will get much help.
Thank you I hope my answer will help you.

Hi, you can easily learn HTML and CSS within a month or 2 completely, but as far as technology is developing so as the language is also developing and getting advanced day by day. Therefore, saying that you had learn all the language completely is not true. So, you have to be in touch with these every month so that you will get all the complete knowledge about the language.
    All the best!!
