Help! My WP blog is a real MESS!

I have had my website up since April and appeared to have no problems. Recently I started getting an Index page instead of my website whenever I view my site.

See here...
Train Your Puppy

So I uninstalled and reinstalled. (With same results.)
But, since doing the reinstall I now get
this....
Index of /wp-admin
when I try to log in to work on the site.
I have no idea what has happened or how to fix it! I can't even access my site because of the 'index' page that I arrive on.

Yes...I am a 'newbie' but was told that Wordpress on Host Gator was the 'way to go'....and I am 'trying'.

I posted pretty much the same thing over on WP Support Forum and someone tried to give me advice on how to fix the 'index' page problem for the site, but haven't received any advice on how I can once again gain access to my WP admin.

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

    Hi Mrs Z

OK, not sure what is going obn here, but you may have to uninstall WP, then log into the site cpanel to remove all files from the root dir.... An FTP program can also be sued for this...

Now, before you do that, the link you have above: Index of /wp-admin

Select that and then scroll down until you see index.php. Double click it and you will get your wordpress login screen. This will take you into the WP control panel.

I noticed that when I went to the first link, you do NOT have an index.php file in it. This is why you are getting the dir list and not WP starting up...

How you go to this stage I have no idea....

I have worked on many, many WP installs. I have seen this problem before, but it was because the site owner used an FTP program and went into the root dir decided to clean up files that they thought were not needed.... Turns out that index.php was one of them...

Have you been accessing the root dir either with an FTP program or with the cpanel file manager?

On Hostgator, WP installs are pretty stright forward in most cases. Not that your WP is messed up (techie term) you may need to do a "clean" install to get your blog back.

    Have a Great Day!

Thanks so much for your help! I've been soooo desperate to try to get my blog back that I also posted this over in the 'main discussion' forum.
I was advised to remove the installation, which I did.
For one thing, I had already 'messed' it up...had removed the original installation..(though I did 'back up' all my posts and my affiliate links on word documents..so I could repost..etc)
Anyway...I've removed the installation but that is all.
Over in Fantastico...in the WP installations...is also located my 'main Domain' installation.
    I'm curious about this.
The 'train your puppy' was a sub-domain...which I set up with WP...
The 'Today-Is-The-Day' is my main domain...which I set up through the Site Studio in Host Gator....why does it show up in the WP installations?
Thanks so much for your help!

Export the database of your forum, than perform another installation and import the database, you should get the forum back.

Use the same prefix for the db tables that you used in the first installation.

Use phpMyAdmin to export and import the database

Oh my goodness...I really am a 'newbie'...all of that just went right "over my head"?
I'm sitting at the point that I have removed all of my subdomains...so there 'should' be nothing except the main domain...which is 'under construction'.

I am currently most interested in building the sub-domains and then using the main domain as a 'landing page' of sorts.

I have a 'bit' of a problem in that...I have written a number of articles with links back to the 'sub-domain' that no longer works.
I want to put up something similar so that I can go to those articles and put in a working link.
I'm a little "OCD" about things like that!

Try out my Award winning software for Wordpress.

make sure you back up and export anything you want to save before
you install again, also remember to drop tables, if needed on the DB first.

Your site is now dead from the links that you provided. Do you own: trainyourpuppy.com: The Leading Puppy Training Site on the Net

I can get to that one but I don't see a link to a Blog on it.....

Now, if you are already have links to the sub-domain you made, then I think you are going to have to rebuild that domain if you want to keep those links active and the Page Rank you built...

I think I will PM you.

    Have a Great Day!
