For modifying web templates, design; which one is better - Joomla, WordPress or Drupal

Hi,

As a front end developer I have a quick question.
I've developed many sites before but I'm still curious to learn more about the abilities of new CMS (newest versions).

One of my clients is really picky about the look of his websites, he often requests modifying the website templates (quite in detail). Hence so far my favorite CMS has been MODx.

Now for his new web site (big portal) I'm debating which CMS would be the best one to use.
I'd like to hear your inputs about the new versions of CMS (I mean, please do not refer back to old Joomla ver 1.5).

What is your experience with those CMS in terms of "freedom", "easiness" and "speed" to modify the web design to my client's liking?

Which one would you recommend (and why): Drupal, Joomla, WordPress or any other CMS?
Again, please, I'd like to hear about the latest/new versions of those CMSs.

Since I don't know yet about all the details of this new project, I only assume that it will require quite a bit of customization, so I'm half-convinced that we won't use WordPress.

Thank you,
Ed

Joomla is a dying platform - maybe controversial for some but true if you do some basic research on engagement and user base.

So that leaves Wordpress and Drupal - both of which I admire and have used extensively over the years. I've watched both become very powerful communities - which is important looking ahead as you want your platform to evolve to keep pace with new technologies such as mobile.

I think for content authoring and ease of use, Wordpress wins. For more complex and flexibility, Drupal wins. It really depends on the nature of your site - can you provide a url?

    Hey @eds,

What you're asking is a commonly asked question here in this part of the forum, and the answer is usually the same..

My personal opinion, is to choose WordPress. It's a great platform, with thousands of themes to choose from, thousands of plugins to add extra functionality and thousands of support questions and WordPress gurus to help you when you get stuck.

This works, 95% of the time. On occasions, it's often better to choose a platform like Drupal if the site requires some functionality that it provide more efficiently than WordPress could.

However, from what you have mentioned above, I'd suggest WordPress. If the site is more or less a basic information site with some basic functionality.

    Hope this helps!

Each has it's own specific purpose.
For example, Drupal is more developer friendly, rock solid - stable CMS, community is more developer oriented (hence the lack of user friendliness), it's intended for more complex sites, while WP can create 95% of sites that world needs with easiness.

Here's a great article which compares Joomla, WP and Drupal:

    Enjoy!

Thank you all for your posts.

Although they were useful, none of them has specifically answered my questions: "for modifying web templates, design; which one is better".

I am not after the comparison or use of those CMSs, I am really trying to find out more about work associated with modifying of the web templates (in WP, Drupal or any other CMS). Which one is easier?
Please I'd like to hear from people with real hands-on experience.

      Thanks,
