Hi everyone - I need to know whats involved with changing my site template to match my blog?

Check my sig for both.
My blog looks great - I love it!
My site - well............yeah! I want them to match!
I need to know what it will take, how much it would cost, how long the job would be and what would be required from me!

I would like some recommendations of people who do this sort of stuff WELL!
I want all my existing info, links etc to be transferred, obviously, and need it to be put back up for me once I have ok'd it!

Any thoughts or ideas or quotes greatly appreciated!
Thanks - Kym

I took a look at your blog. Shouldn't be much of a problem creating a web site that looks just like the blog...very inexpensively I'd guess.

I'd put a project out on rentacoder, telling them to look at your blog and create a website that looks just like it. You just supply them with your graphics and ad links. You'll get a ton of bids and it shouldn't take them but a day or so to do.

        Hi Kym,

Actually, it would be technically easier to make your blog look like your website. The host4profit code is unique. However, the blog application, Wordpress, only requires a theme that matches your host4profit site. Any good Wordpress theme designer can do it. I am sure that the webmasters at rentacoder will tell you that after they compare the two sites. Alternatively, there are a few good Wordpress theme generators available if you want to do it yourself.

        Jeffery 100% :-)

I think it is actually easier to make a site match the blog design. WordPress themes can be a pain in the rear at times. Id recommend elance.com. As a provider there myself, I think you will get more targeted bids for the project.

Alternately you may just be able to use Wordpress to power your regular website and then can use the same template so long as its suitable for the widgets/coding for your site and blog.

Hey Purple. Sorry to muscle in but would you clarify something for me? Use WP to power website? So you are saying I can get a website and a blog on Word press?

Also I heard Wordpress does not allow you to merchandise your site (?)....... or blog rather.

            Thanks Purpleman

Wordpress in my eyes is a cms...you decide what you do with it and most use it as a blog. But if you look at the premium themes lately there is a shift to more a magazine/portal style.

Wordpress does not restrict you when you put it on your own site...If you use a free blog on their site then yes you are not allowed to merchendise.

When you want the blog to match the site that would be the easiest indeed. It would take only a few adjustments to the template and shouldn't cost you more then $30 - $50
The site matching the blog would be a more trickier but if it's build in a template form then it wouldn't be that hard and should be in the same range.

But looking at your code it seems that you have a rather static page system which holds the design elements in the page instead all out in stylesheet / template way and that means every page needs to be changed and that will cost you a bit more. I see about 80 pages not being your blog and if that's the right figure I guess it will cost you about $100 - $150 to change it.

But indeed the best way is to post it at either elance or getafreelancer. Maybe even here at wf as we now have our section for design and webmasters.

It is not my intention to hijack this thread; but things are getting clearer.

                It's confusing though when I visit Wordpress:confused:

                Let me get this straight......

So us newbies can go to wordpress and:

                1. Buy a domain name (thought I saw a place to do this?)
                2. Use wordpress.org for blog (this will be a yourname.com set up)
                3. Additionally, use wordpress.org premium themes so you can add adsense/affiliates/banners etc

By doing this everything is in one place, which is awesome btw for me and what I am looking for; but Kym can also have some continuity and her own type of branding by keeping the blog and the merchandising stuff the same color and style?

Thanks so much for your patience Edwin!

a service I am starting up soon has a matching minisite and a matching blog.

You can see tye results here Affordable, Custom Minisite Design, by Graphics Unloaded. and click on the blog tab to see the results.

my site is a static site where the blog is a WP theme so it is possible to match sites/blogs completely.

Can someone tell me in techie terms what I actually want?
What do I put out on elance etc without sounding like a knob????

I cant just say (like I have here....lol) that I want my site to match my blog can I???
and how do I know that the person who answers my call will actually know what he's/she's doing without stuffing it all up? especially if im paying in advance???

And...I want my site to resemble my blog...coz...the blog looks good and the site is average!
