I am wondering why I have 2 versions of each page showing up the ones with the www and the ones with only http:// Is this normal and how can I fix it?

Also I have NO IDEA where that page/2/ post is coming from. I have 2 simple posts no pages? The directory /page is not even visible in my control panel. -part 2 huh?
What could be going on?

Thanks

    Hi Christian

Not sure if this will help but if you're showing both http:// and http://www. then it could be a .htaccess problem. You don't want both of those pages to be indexed (assuming you'll index this site) due to dupe content issues.

If you login to Settings >> WordPress address (URL) and put http://www.how-to-build-a-windmill.com and do this for Blog address (URL) or vice-versa, ie take out the www. then this should help. Is your .htaccess file set to 755 or 777?

The directory /page has to do with your Pages link on the left which I'm sure you already know. That is by default (just like Posts, Links, Pages, etc.)

I hope I'm not giving bad advice here, it's hard for me to know exactly without logging in and taking a look. If you want me to, set up a temporary password and I'll have a look. That's the best I can do

    PM me if interested

    Cheers

    Scott

I usually change everything to www in my WP general settting tab and then use the cannonical plugin for wordpress.

Here's some good info on it: yoast.com/wordpress/canonical/

Thanks for the offer scott, if I can't figure it out here ill pm you a temp access, thanks!

I have this set as shown above

        .htaccess is as above

        Permissions are set as above

I did not know about the page 2 issue, but now that I checked back at the site I see what you are saying.

I'll try the other suggestions also.

        See any issues?

All good now the Platinum seo plug has an cannonical option.

I did try to add the www back into the WP general settings and the problem returned, so I think it is good to go as is.

Still not totally getting that page2 thing, I wonder why it cant just link to an existing url? Why create a 'ghost' url for content that is already assigned an URL? Seems like that could be dupe content as well.... I hope G does not see it that way.

BYW that was an excellent video by Mat Cutts, everyone should watch that.

    Hi Christian

Man, as many wordpress sites I've put together it's funny that I should be able to solve issues quickly but I'm such a visual person that it's hard for me to say without logging in. Then again, maybe I'm not as good as I think lol

I would try to change your .htaccess file to 777 if your host will allow. This should then let you put www. in the Settings tab.

You never know, changing the .htaccess to 755 or 777 could solve many issues but it should solve the www. bit

    Give that a try mate

    Christian,

I believe the page/2/ thing has to do with posts, not pages. Check out an old site of mine - http: //www. cordlesspowertools.org.uk /category/accessories/page/2/ (obviously close the gaps)

You'll see this is just Wordpress's way of saying the posts continue on to page 2. I think because you have so much content on each page that even though you may only have a few/couple posts WP is saying "there's more on page 2".

Hope that helps (and I hope I'm right lol)

    Cheers

BTW - that url I gave is like an archive of the posts, so page/2/ is page 2 of all the posts in that cateogry. Hope that makes sense.
