Clickable eMail Links Attracts SPAM?

On one site in particular several years ago, I disconnected the live clickable link to my email. On the buttons themselves it had my email visible on it. So if someone wants to send an email, they will have to do it manually instead of just clicking the link to open their email client.

How many of you believe you get a lot of junk emails created(sent to you) because there are clickable email links on your site?

Besides the possibility of losing a few contacts because people want the live link, do you think it warrants doing it that way? I did it on that particular site because of the very unusual niche that it was in and I wanted to reduce as much as I could the amount of SPAM I was receiving.

Unclickable email links "Ok?" or keep them live? I say live but wanted to see what others thought of this subject.

And in case some of you don't know, there are spam initiated bots that go out harvesting emails just for spam purposes. I also can encrypt the email too. I've done that with good success. That way it's clickable, but unreadable to bots.
