Can Someone Tell Me What These Characters Mean?

Hope this is an appropriate section for this.

I've noticed these weird characters in my Wordpress menus for some time now. They've also appeared in other places, but the Wordpress situation is really annoying.

If you note the image I've linked to, you'll notice the characters I'm talking about beside the dashboard options. When I'm in a post/page editor, the strange characters are all I see in my kitchen sink for the formatting options, which makes posting much more of a chore.

I can do a "hover-over" each character to find the option I want, but prefer the old way (similar to the options right here in the Warrior Forum post editor.

Is this something I've done?

An option on my computer?

Maybe an option I've tweaked unintentionally within Wordpress itself? Images are shown below.

Perhaps (gasp), I've fallen behind the times and technology is creeping away from me?

Thanks in advance,

    Hi
If you are using firefox browser you can click on the "view" tab in the top left of the browser then go down to character encoding to see which one is selected.

Thanks so much for that tracker. That made a lot of sense, so I checked.

The character encoding's set to Unicode. Your suggestion go me thinking, and so I tried a different browser and everything looked as it should.

This is a real bummer being a Firefox setting issue.

At least I know where to look know. It must be a default that's changed somewhere. I'm running Mint on all my computers, and getting the same result with every Firefox browser.

Since it's localized to Firefox, I wonder if it isn't the Wordpress application or even my webhost that's causing the issue.

      Any other suggestions are appreciated.
