Need help choosing a Website Builder

I have invested so much time already trying to choose a free website builder.
I tried some that were offered on Fantastico. I was not pleased with each one I that I tried.

Blue Voda looked very nice, but they wanted a years worth of hosting fees up front ($100)

I was trying Coffee Cup, but after the 30 day trial - the cost is $50

I downloaded Evrsoft First Page and PageBreeze. They both look good. But it seemed to me that placement of images on the page using tables is rather clumsy (am I right that this is not so simple? is it possible to succeed with just tables?)

So I began to try Kompozer. This seems very good and is designed to work with CSS which is supposed to be perfect for web page placement, etc.

But I have had trouble getting past the first stage in publishing with Kompozer (to a sub domain). Is CSS a good way to go? Does it take a lot of time to learn? Is Kompozer a good, easy website builder?

I would appreciate some direction from some of you experienced web page designers (that have already used some of these builders.

Thank you.

Kompozer is the best choice if You want it for free.

You should also check out wix.com

CSS is not that hard to learn. I recommend to go through lynda.com tutorials. They are easy to understand.

    Hope this helps!
