    You definitely need a ton of theming done here. Right now it's hard to tell what's going on with the site. First, I would increase the width of everything, add a background color, header, graphics etc.

    If possible, don't build from straight HTML, CSS, and Javascript if you're not well versed in it. I would recommend just using either a Wordpress or Drupal build and then enabling a Forum plugin or module. It would be the easiest route, quicker, and look nicer.
