The new release of Geo Directory plugin for Wordpress

I am converting several of my sites to directories. Yesterday I downloaded the free WP plugin called Geo Directory. It's rather expensive to buy all the add-ons, much more so than to just purchase a full directory parent theme.

I am wondering if anyone else has experience with the Geo Directory plugin or could give me some advice for a WP theme that could be used for a national/international directory, with a bulk upload feature.

Thanks Warriors!

Sorry, I cannot give you any actual experience with this product, but only because after reviewing it, I have passed on purchasing it.

Why? Because if you want all of the bells and whistles required to start a directory site you will have to pay $150 a year to keep them running. I have concluded for my own project that I will convert my existing site into a Wordpress multi-site and install a full fledged directory theme on my site.

While I love the idea of using a wordpress plug-in to incorporate my site's theme...I cannot see paying for updates on an annual basis when I can use a theme and get even more of the bells and whistles built into it.

I'm sure there will be those who state that $150 a year is no big deal, but when you've read the reviews about the plugin creator's support that I have, I don't think they would be making the same case.

      Hi CG,

Thanks for your comments. I am still on the fence. I have installed the "free" portion of the Geo Directory plugin but still haven't pulled the trigger on the purchasable addons that are needed to make it feel like a full directory theme.

What directory theme have you decided on, for your site transition? I know I have reviewed all of the WP directory themes and nothing really appears head and shoulders above the rest.

Anybody else with first hand knowledge of WP directory themes, feel free to jump in!

Here is my take on the whole update thing. Don't get the newest latest and greatest. there will be updates. Look for themes that have been out a year or so. This kind of ensures some stability within the theme. If you happen to be using theme forest look at how many themes the author has. If it is the first one, well I would just stay away. You don't have to pay the yearly update fee, why fix what is already working?

        Hi all,
I'd be interested in getting feedback about the paid addons too. I want to build hundreds of regional directories, so the price for me sounds actually convenient. $150 for a developer licence is less than what other directory theme/plugins out there actually cost and none of them actually handle multi location properly, giving the option to browse listings by city, region/state or country. GeoTheme is the only one actually providing this option, but IMHO the permalink structure sucks and the theme layout is awfully outdated.
I downloaded the free GeoDirectory plugin and I've been testing it since almost 1 week and it seems to be doing what it promises. I also digged into the code and from a developer point of view, it is very well structured. It is pretty clean and the amount of hooks and action filters to extend it without editing its files, for a newly released plugin is really impressive. The developers must have spent a great deal of time building it... The demo of the plugin seems to be able to provide exactly what I need, but before giving them my money, I'd like to be reassured that the addons aren't full of bugs and/or poorly codded compared to the main plugin. I'd like to get started right away and avoid becoming one of their addons beta tester... I've seen that happening too many times.

Just to update, I settled on the new Geo directory plugin and have been trying to upload the CSV file for the last several days. The developers have gotten involved and they have even tried to load it onto my site themselves, without luck. I am feeling like I may be part of the beta test, so have decided to move on.

Given that I wasn't getting any feedback I decided to actually buy the addons bundle.
Code isn't 100% perfect, but it's much much better compared to other and more mature directory scripts I've tried.

CSV bulk upload worked like a charm for me and I didn't need assistance for that...

Yes, Geo directory is a brand new plugin.
Just recently I uploaded 30000 US state cities.
Multi location addon has been playing wonderful but I think they still need to optimize the db queries to reduce memory consumption.
I would just love to test my data of 138000 world state cities and see Geo directory handling it well.
