PHP is very very helpful if you are interested in web development, but it's possible to get by with HTML CSS JS etc
PHP will allow connections to databases.
    PHP runs WordPress.
PHP does a lot of very useful things, it can be used to create entire website or web applications.
    PHP is server side.

I would think it is fair to say that Web Development emcompasses PHP, where the alternative is just JS development, or PHP development

It all comes down to what you want to accomplish

PHP is the world famous, large in use and best programing language, but its not one or last option for web development. Many other languages are use for development purpose, like .net, java and many more. But i recommend PHP is the best option for Web Development.

Its not only PHP. It depends what kind of a website you want. Let it be a dynamic website, PHP is the most trusted way to develop a website as per me. A static website could also be developed with the normal HTML and CSS.

I believe the title Web Development and Web Designer are two different things. To me...

Web Designer designs and constructs the art of the website (HTML/CSS perhaps some JavaScript and SS languages). Their main skills and focus is mostly on the design of the site from graphics, content, structure, navigation, and so forth.

A Web Developer is one that goes beyond just HTML and CSS. They may develop sites using CMS, Database, adapt to mobile devices and so forth. Typically, if I were to hire a web developer I would expect they have knowledge in a large variety of languages from asp, asp.net, linux and window server, SQL, Oracle, PHP, MySql, database queries and so forth. You do not have to be an expert at it but you should be able to identify and write simple lines in the codes to make things work.

I myself have been a web designer for over fifteen years and recently graduated as a programmer.

      Hello Forum Members,
I could not find right place to post this. I am new to website development.
I just wanted to know -
      1) Is there any application on the web free/with price that grabs content from some targeted areas and post automatically to a site? Basic idea is to fully automate the content management in the site.

      2) Is there any service or systems that helps increasing the page rank quicker? I saw few sites just 1 or 2 months old having page rank upto 3/4. Is that possible any way?

      Plz advise.

      Thanks

No its not. You have to put your behind in a chair for 6 moths to a year and teach your self how to code. Or pay some developer to do it for you

I think you should have a basic understanding of PHP as the projects you might be developing could require some functions, like forms for example, where you have to use PHP.

Just remember, when you use PHP you will have to deal with security issues as well and that could get a little complicated but you should be able to learn it if you have the right motivation.

I can only learn anything if I am motivated. My motivation is always creativity. If I want to create a new site, I have to learn some new things (like PHP) but I learn it no matter how difficult it is because otherwise I wont be able to accomplish what I set out do.

So, I need a project that I am excited about, then I learn what I need to get it done.

    Hope that helps.

PHP is most famous language for build websites because this is server side language and cannot read very easily because it works on backend. PHP now become more popular but when some time ago HTML is more power full language for building Websites.

There are several other languages that you can use to build the backend for a website. Frontend is still HTML, CSS, Javascript, but for the backend you can use other languages such as:

      - Ruby
      - Python
      - JAVA

And you can also build backends with Javascript.

Yes PHP is much more important for web hosting. A large number popular websites, including Facebook and Wikipedia, are written in PHP.It is important to check with your web hosting provider if the hosting plan you are using supports PHP.

No, this is not mandatory to have a website in PHP. You can have a website in your desired technology like Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, Magenta, CakePHP and like this.

PHP is not mandatory, it just happen to be the most POPULAR and most USED web language, its one of those language who talk to the server...
HTML, CSS, JS they dont need to talk to the server, browser can process them quickly...
but JS today is getting popular it can talk to server directly without the help of PHP

If you're looking at developing specifically for websites then the main languages used would be HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL/SQL/Java/ASP and possibly even more. It just depends on what the clients requirements are and what would be most appropriate for that given project.

    Hi,
PHP is not mandatory for Web Development, there are lots of other technologies like ASP,Cold Fusion etc. Only HTML/CSS can be used to develop a simple website.

All it depends on requirement of website being developed, if its dynamic then a server side tecnhologies can be used like PHP or ASP or Cold Fusion etc, there are so many CMS also available to quickly develop a website like WordPress, Joomla,Magento etc.
