Wordpress Child Theme - Any Harm to...?

Hi all!

I'm an extremely amateur newbie, so please forgive my ignorance.

I understand (basically) there are many advantages to creating and
using a child theme and have found many tutorials and videos about
how to do so, no biggie there , so far.

What I can't seem to find is:
1) Does a child theme harm SEO?
2) Does a child theme impact site load time?

If the answer to either of the above questions is 'yes' then I beg your
tips and advice upon how to minimize those two facets.

Thanks,

Mike.
PS I have been searching and searching on the web and here in the
forums for this. I have read many results, I think my search
queries must be wrong, as I don't find either topic .

Depends on what your doing with the child theme, or how much you change it. Hard question to answer.

I am not a child theme expert, but if your just doing CSS, then it shouldn't impact SEO or load time. When you start messing with the actual code, then it's possible.

As for just CSS, unless you start adding many images, or large images, is when it could impact your load time. Or bad code.

      Many thanks Ron,

      Your reply gives me hope.

I'll be following basic instructions inasmuch to 'create' a child theme only.
According to what I've found, this should preserve my theme's (child) settings in the
case of a theme update. That's what I'm led to believe anyway.
There probably wont be any large images or legions of them either.

      Mike.

That is the big reason to use child theme's, so your changes won't get lost when the main theme updates. Something I need to do more of myself.

    Your thinking smart

Think you just need to be careful what you add to the child version. More so if your adding new/extra functions. You could add code and do a load test to be sure.
