Making a Wordpress Website

Hello developers!

Well, I'm practically a noob when it comes to making website, specially using Wordpress. I registered a domain couple weeks back, and I want to make a Wordpress website. I went through some YouTube tutorials and managed to understand the process. But it appears that it's not really free when I want to use custom domain other than mysitename.wordpress.com, and the hosting isn't fully free either.

I wish to know whether using these paid services will be a good idea, or I should just buy hosting from somewhere cheaper, and then use a Wordpress framework to make the website.

Thanks a lot.

The best thing would be to purchase hosting. You can see a discussion in this thread

and come away with a lot of options to pick from.

or you can look at my short list of shared hosting providers that seem reasonable and don't get many bad reviews:
    Glowhost
    Arvixe
    Frog Host - Web Hosting
    Site5 Web Hosting
    Siteground
    JaguarPC
    PacificHost

I moved several of my sites to Glowhost, because they seemed to be the best deal for me. They handled the relocation of more than 25 sites without a glitch, no downtime.

Hostgator, Hostmonster, Bluehost, Ipage, JustHost and FatCow are all heavily promoted hosts that are owned by EIG and most are hosted in the same datacenter owned by EIG and are quickly gaining a reputation for bad customer service and lousy performance.

My recommendation for the most flexible and non-restricting way to build a WordPress website would be to buy a domain name and hosting from Hostgator and use Fantastico to launch your WordPress site. Simply Google, how to start a WordPress site using Hostgator Fantastico and you'll be set.

I've had nothing but great service from Hostgator. The service portal has 24/7 live chat and you can also contact them by phone. I've been completely satisfied, but that's just my opinion.

I would also recommend the website wpbeginner.com as they have some amazing tutorials and learning information targeted for WordPress.

The best way to go is having your own domain name with your own hosting I also have been using Hostgator with no problems at all. You can install WordPress from cPanel real easy then just use the theme and plugins you want.

Conventional wisdom is to register your domain somewhere that's not your host. If one or the other goes down, you can recover easier. Hover.com is my new BFF when it comes to domain registration.

Stay far, far away from GoDaddy if you can. They let you in the door cheap but they are the most aggressive marketers of upsells on the face of this planet!

I have my hosting at HostGator and have never once had an issue. Some have but I have not.

You can do a one-click install of W with Fantastico but, lately, I've been installing manually for security concerns. WP is spectacular but, due to it's popularity and vulnerabilities, ripe for attack.
