Is there a general guideline to follow for using pictures on webistes? For example if I wanted to start a website on "Spiderman" , are there issues with using pictures from the movie? Of if one made a web site on Mickey Mouse, does Disney have issues with using pics from the movie Fantasia?

How does one go about this?

When you have a web site you are very much like a sitting duck. Not only can it be seen if you still have them, spies can look back into yesteryear and see if you have ever had them.

The good news is, quite often all you have to do is ASK if you can use them. Save the answer, who it came from, and upload your pictures.

You can also use stock photos that have already been approved. FREE ARTWORK And How To use it will lead you to bunches of them. The prices are low and you don't have to sweat a visit from Disney, et al.

As a writer you can also interview executives at Spiderman and your other choices.

But, from what I'm reading, what you really should be doing is starting a membership club for each of these. Write to the copyright holder and ask for its support in the form of pictures, movies, banners, etc. http://www.talewins.com/adventure/themeparks.htm should be of some help to you in contacting them.

Start asking your friends and neighbors if they have visited your object of interest, or if they know anyone that has an inside track. A school teacher friend of mine asked his students how many had contact with President Clinton. 14 out of 32 had direct contact, or knew someone that did. "Now you know 2 more," I told him.

As always, the best advice is simply to get going and pray for the right doors to open.

in case you do not have a permission to use the image, try stock photos then (there is plenty of resources you can easily find), or you can contact image creator for permission
