i think what you need is this https://wordpress.com/
because building a site is a lot of process
    -- buying domain
    -- buying hosting
    -- setup/installing sofware (e.g wordpress)
-- learning to tweak or setup the site

    easiest and cheapest :

    1. Buy a domain and hosting with hostgator (cheapest package).
    2. Once active, install wordpress from the hostgator cpanel via Quickinstall or Fantastico (you will find these in your cpanel)
    3. Use one of the free themes that comes with wordpress and just modify the header / logo etc.
    4. Publish your content. You have a website!

You will have one of the thousands such websites on the web that have the same design, websites that no one wants to visit and in general are only wasting valuable hosting space.

The price of your site has to do with your functionality or the size of your site.

A simple site can be made with little money, a huge site (e.g. amazon.com) wants many more....
what about is your site ?

There are plenty of free or dirt cheap ways to create a web site, but really you should be turning this on it's head.

Why do you want a web site? What do you hope to get out of it and how will this web site help you achieve that goal?

You can only really assess what sort of web site you need when you know what you're trying to achieve.

I wrote a post on the topic - I only recommend Wordpress. For 99.9% of people, Wordpress is the right solution to building a website.

As for the reasons to build - learning how to put up a site is legitimate enough... later down the road you'll have a useable skill that you can direct to anything else you want to do with websites.

But learning the basics is, IMO, a worthwhile task. (and it can be easy to learn, too; with so many resources to help!)

Wordpress is I think the best place to get things started. They have a lot of easy-to-customize stuff there. Try tweaking some stuff and when you get a hang of it, you'll be able to build better websites. Good luck!
