Hi all,

I am working on a new website and before we create a domain name, etc, I want to get some feedback on the look and mainly on the content and if anybody has more ideas we can add.

The site is designed to help people 50+ but all ages can use it too.
So feel free to post in here or via pm or email.

Remember, the url is just sitting on a page in another of our sites right now so isn't relevant.
Over 50's | Better ways to do things

Thank you in advance.

Here's the top 3 to get you started...

    1. Black links on blue background is hard to see.
    2. Sidebar links are too small.
    3. Use Google Analytics, rather that bravenet free stats.

Change the text color from black to white. I am referring to the texts within the blue tab.

Content is a king for any site.
If you are creating your new site or establishing your website, then for that unique content is must. While writing content for your website home page, take care of few important points such as: Write your content minimum of 500 words, Use your targeted keywords at least 3-4 times including title, try to give a short and summarize info to your customers through your content.

By the way, my husband belongs to that age bracket. He will love the computers section and the cruises/ vacations. However, we don't want to be surrounded by old farts. :-) A wide variety of options would be perfect. And he also likes infos about mobile phones.
      Thanks.

Not that familiar with that niche, but personally I would drop the dating "system" and get to the seniorfriendfinder.com affiliate program.(that's part of friendfinder.com network)

This is a good idea. You can work on this one, laurencewins.

Now this is where this post should be.

Very small font-size for that ages.....
Also black letters with blue background on the main menu, doesn help them to read...

I like how the dating section brings up 25 year old women. Clearly, you know what 50+ men are really looking for!

I am struggling with the image you are projecting here. You say 50+, but the clipart shows people that look like they are in their 80's. I would think that most 50-year-olds would prefer not to think of themselves as old, and in fact they may prefer to find sites that help them feel younger.

It feels, well, a bit fuddy-duddy and plain. If that is strategic because you really are looking for people in their 70's and 80's, then I guess it works a little better.

But I think most people in their 50's or 60's (and I am not that far off...) would feel that this is something that doesn't quite nail how they feel about themselves.

Remember, you are competing with things like Facebook, AOL (remember the age group...), OurTime, etc. This doesn't match the many other more sophisticated options available to that market.

Thanks for the feedback, Jack. It's good to get objective feedback because it's very easy to not see all angles when you're working on a site. We will certainly consider what you have said as it does have a lot of merit.

I think your menu would look better if you created a lighter hover colour that would make the black text legible. Do you have a logo in mind or are you keeping the text in your header? How about a travel section where seniors can trade tips and share experiences or find travel partners to get cheaper rates instead of traveling alone etc? Most seniors love to travel.

Thanks for the tips, Paul. We haven't fully worked out all the design but are going to keep it fairly much as is unless something radical happens.

Your site actually looks simple since it's target audience are people aged 50+. Maybe you could improve your homepage. You can add there previews of your articles that will attract viewers on first view. Photos are very important. You should include images appropriate to your site and the viewers. The header could be improved too. Maintain the simplicity, just make it a little bit more attractive. Good luck!
