Need a Little FTP Help

Ok, so far I have not really worked much with html sites, having mostly used Wordpress. I am trying to do a little playing around with a simple site in Kompozer and am having more difficulty than I expected. Boy, do I feel like a dummy!

One problem that I have suddenly discovered, is trying to upload files with Filezilla. I just downloaded it and have never used it before so I am not real sure of a couple of things.

The domain that I want to upload to is one of my add-on domains on Hostgator, not the main one. If I put in my main cpanel user id and password, it connects just fine, but don't I need to put in the user id and password for the add-on domain to get files loaded onto it? When I try to do that it is telling me that the user id is ok, but the password is failing.

Does anyone have any advice?

    Hi Teresa,

If you have regular shared hosting account (which i presume you have) - just put your main domain user_id + password.
Then each add-on domain has it's specific location (directory).
Before uploading files make sure you change to the directory of the domain you want to use.
    Then you'll be fine.

I have hostgator and I use filezilla - so feel free to ask me QQ's if needed.

      Gleb,
When I run into more problems, (and I am sure that I will -haha) I will remember your offer. Thanks!

Thanks, guys! That is exactly what I needed! I just wasn't seeing this last night, so I just gave up, posted a question here and went to bed. I know it seems like a really simple thing but sometimes those simple things are the ones that you get stuck on.

I just love this forum, I can always count on you guys!

You can direct FZ to the specific directory you want to use as the base location for your subdomain. Just set the default remote directory to "/public_html/newdirectory", and when you log into that site, it will take you straight there.
