How to Create an Unpublished Word Press Development site

Hi

I want to create a development site on Wordpress which is unpublished and cannot be accessed can anybody (except me) can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to do this?

I do not need to know how to set up wordpress I will just use CPanel and Fantastico in Hostgator to do that, but I just need to know how to hide it from the world and only I can access it for development.

there is a wordpress plugin called private blog that requires a password to access the blog. There is a free version and a premium version, but it sounds like the free one has the functionality you need.

Hi !
Another suggestion from my side is that you should also temporarily work in a sub directory(eg. test dot websitename dot com). And place a coming soon page on the main directory. And when you are done with setting it up, you can easily move it to the main directory. Unless someone has the direct link to your sub directory, no one will have access to your on going work.

Here is what you should:

1) Go to: WordPress › Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS
2) Click on plugin
3) Search for "coming soon" plugin
4) it will show you about 615 plugins that will solve your problem in no time
5) Login into your website wordpress dashboard, and under plugin click on add, search for your choice plugin and install
6) Enjoy!

Easiest way -> update HTAccess file

Password protection with htaccess

and Coming soon plugin is also great...

Don't enter a DNS for the site, and use your hosts file (local DNS). Problem solved. All real developers use this method. It's easy.

Plugins are not needed, and the site is NOT non-public with that method. It can still get spammed, hacked, etc.
