I guess it would depend on your level of experience with web design and development. If you are familiar with slices then Photoshop can be used but why not try a content management system like wordpress which has many different themes both free and commercial as well as a large community of support behind it. Of course if you are willing to spend some money and are experienced with html, css and javascript you could use Dreamweaver to achieve what you want. Just keep in mind that it should be responsive what ever platform you choose. Good Luck

depending on its purpose. for designing a website you will need photoshop. after that you need to convert from PSD to XHTML using Dreamweaver.

I personally prefer a combination of Adobe Illustrator for design and Adobe Dreamweaver for the coding management. I agree that Photoshop is a good tool too but for my preferences, I think Illustrator gives me more flexibility and still has some of the Photoshop effects and filters incorporated into it as well. Either way, I would definitely stick to an Adobe product. They are unmatched in the tools and software they provide for designers.

Instead of software, you should go with website development over wordpress.

Wodpress allows to create SEO friendly and multilingual site.

Hope this would help you !!

A good text editor (I like JEdit from jEdit - Programmer's Text Editor - overview ) combined with testing tools ( http://validator.w3.organd Firebug ).

There aren't any tools that do a good job of substituting for knowing how to write HTML though.HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Tutorials, References, and Articles | HTML Dog has some reasonable documentation.

If you want to design your website then you Adobe Photoshop. But if you want to do coding with your design then use Dreamwaver or best coding editor software notepad ++ or premium editor sublime text

You should use sublime text or notepad ++.. Dreamweaver is way more than what you need.

Good sites are built on good code... don't waste your time building slices etc. Anything you can do in Photoshop can be done in CSS in terms of web related designs, if you need to load a bunch of images on a site you drastically slow it down and the UX is horrible, plus making changes is a nightmare.

IMO Photoshop is good for business cards, actual photo touch ups etc.. not for web design, and even for logos, cards, etc you are better off with illustrator. Don't get me wrong Photoshop is a good asset but I could easily go without it and still build awesome apps/sites.

Also photoshop is great for mockups, most design teams have a designer make a mockup then a coder write it into HTML CSS... If you are a designer/developer to me it's not necessary to make a mockup in Photoshop.

Wordpress can do that then manipulate the image using Photoshop or gimp. Creating website from scratch is time consuming.

If you are just doing graphics then all you really need is Adobe Photoshop CS2 which is free to download as Adobe don't support it anymore - just Google: Adobe CS2 free download (you can get dreamweaver CS2 etc too). Then you just use wordpress framework to integrate your designs or graphics. So then I would reccommend a HTML editor which would be just dreamweaver, notepad++ or sublime text.

Let me google that for you

Professionals do not use Photoshop and then slice designs.

If you are professional then you do not ask questions like this... which is asked every week here...

There is a lot of bad information in this thread. I attribute it to an equally bad question with no qualifiers.

Everyone has their favorite tool set for putting something on the web and it usually comes from their background and point of starting. For instance programmers will say to use some text editor and setup a webserver for your dev environment. Less experienced programmers vote for dreamweaver. Graphic artists like Photoshop or Illustrator combined with some editor. But really none of this matters without knowing what you need to do and what you have experience with. Never used photoshop? Don't start for this project (at least not from scratch). Not sure how to write HTML? Don't try to use Sublime Text or even Dreamweaver.

If you are starting from little to no experience you should follow these steps:
      1) Get hosting with a provider that offers one-click installs
      2) Install Wordpress through the host's interface
      3) Buy or find a free template that has multi-language support built in

From there you could tweak stuff and play around. For that I would recommend a local copy of the site (I left off downloading xampp, or the Mac equivalent, but that will allow you to set the site up locally and work with it until you have it right. You'd have to worry about migrating the site to the host, but might be required for your project).

To tweak images photoshop is handy especially if your theme came with .PSD files. But, I would just buy images or change colors in your theme vs. starting with photoshop with no prior experience.

To tweak code/css, there are two options: 1) Use the editor in Wordpress or 2) Use something like Sublime Text or Notepadd++. Often themes come with tons of customization tools built in (hint: Find a theme with so much customization that you don't need to tweak images or code/css).

I'll say that last part again: If you are a beginner and your goal is to get a site up, then get a theme with lots of customization options that don't require code or image changes.

      Good luck.

Previously I was a huge Dreamweaver user but as of late I have switched up to Aptana (later replaced with PHPStorm).

Other software that I use a lot are:

    - Photoshop
    - Sublime Text 2 (quick edits, third window compare, temp notepad for code, etc)
    - WordPress for CMS / Blog. Otherwise it's HTML or plain PHP.

Using these have worked well for me.

word press is now the chosen platform folks are are using, that's a fact

I guess it appears to make the Photoshop and artists out of business?

no way they can still do their designs in html within word press pages
