I am building a word press site and working on getting it set up. Why is it when I add pages and then go to the preview section for some reason the pages are not in the order I created them in? For example, I added pages in this order

Home

About

Services

Projects

Contact

But when I check the preview and it takes me to my site. The pages are in this order

About

Contact

Home

Past projects

Services

This is very frustrating and I have tried to delete and redo them in the order I want them but it keeps shifting anyway.

They are ordered alphabetically by default.

    This should help:

If, your in WordPress go into the customize feature and set it up through your primary menu. That might be the reason, but not sure. Or are doing everything from scratch and using divs, if that case it your CSS rules.

It depends on which menu you are using (custom or default), but assuming the default menu there is a page attribute called 'Order'. Simply put sequential numbers in that attribute. You can find it by looking at the list of pages and clicking 'Quick Edit'. It's on the right.

I have always created navigation for pages manually using custom menus. I rarely want anyone to see all of my pages in a list.

When you create a custom menu, you can just drag and drop them into the order you wish and even create nested menus with ease.

You can set the page order manually, or install a WordPress plugin that does that. Go to Pages, click Edit, and change the order number for each page. It's really simple.

Use custom menu widgets instead of page.
Creating a menu allows you to order each page as you desire.
