Replaced an image in wordpress, old image keeps showing up

I replaced an image on my wordpress site with a newer version with exactly the same name. So it over wrote the old image, but this old image keeps showing up even though it is no longer on the server.
I have tried clearing cookies, emptying the cache (i use w3 total cache) but nothing works. I also checked for spelling errors etc.

I actually did this with 10 images. 7 display the new image, the other 3 keep displaying the old image, no matter what I do. I did the exact same thing for all 10 images.

Can anyone explain how this is happening and how I can fix this?

Thank you!

You have to clear the server cache first and then the browser cache. I have this trouble when I have no caching plugins installed but if I install wp-supercache and then click on delete cache and then clear my browser cache then everything works- there is a way to just delete the cache for a single page-it toggles on and off with the 'do not cache settings for known users' setting.Obviously if you need to activate wp-supercache disable total cache.

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.
