Staying Power: 5 Careers with Bright Futures

Internet Marketer ($53,000) -- from Internet Marketing Specialist ($43,000) to Internet Marketing Life Coach -- $203,000

Online marketers, also called eMarketers or Internet advertisers, work in a lively business sector that changes every day. One of those changes, according to the BLS 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook, is continued growth. "Advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales manager jobs are highly coveted and will be sought. ... In particular, employers will seek those who have the computer skills to conduct advertising, marketing, promotions, public relations, and sales activities on the Internet."

It pretty much says it in the description on how they got those numbers....from companies that hire internet marketers.

Here is a link where you can see job openings for internet marketing in real-time:

How is that scary if companies need the internet in their marketing department? I must be missing something.

Scott, if that is out of all of the jobs in this country then I think it is pretty bad. I live in Sacramento as you know it's the government town in CA and most people here work for the state.

So just with gov. jobs alone, state, police ,fire, etc that would scare me but throw in all of the big corporations too and they're saying out of all of those jobs IM is more secure? Wow.

You see all of the folks who come on here everyday saying that they just can't make a living.

I wonder where they got their numbers from.

Ahh....I see your viewpoint now. That makes sense. Now that I review that link again, it seems that the overview of that link seems to be more like, "What jobs are needed or should be added for companies".

                    Yeah Scott,

When I first saw it I thought it was great. It does say "most promising" so that might be the area that got it listed. We know how promising it is and you are right about all of those companies needing more IM experts.

Once they, the big companies start realizing that a surfer dude ( Frank Kern ) is blowing their socks off they are going to start coming here to hire people for their in-house marketing.

                      Interesting.

Looks like I may need to try to market to newbies again

Ever wondered if everyone worked online? Like if they all read Yahoo, quit their jobs, and decided to sign up with Clickbank or something? Who would man the grocery stores? Who would import oil? Where would get those Alaskan Crab from Juneau? Who would plant the crops?

...yeah, I think of stuff like this :p

As good as our job is, if everyone did it, we'd have to find something else to do.

It's my experience that in any economic conditions, up down sideways, there are always, always, a lot of jobs in sales being offered.

Good point. I would have been more accurate to say that there are always a lot of jobs utilizing sales, than in sales. : )

You do realize these stats are for corporate jobs, right?

Most GOOD internet marketers wouldn't work for that. After all, if you are good at what you can do, you can make a lot more. Look at guys like John Reese.

Imagine the kind of paycheck you'd have to offer him to come work for you... now that's a scary figure!

I agree. That is why I often get confused why people post about "internet marketing is a (insert whatever blasphemy or negativity)". What they tend to really mean is the "make money online niche" is a (insert whatever blasphemy). The two are quite often confused with one another.

In the summer of 2006 to see what it was like behind the scenes, I worked for an internet marketing company and it had nothing to do with the "make a million dollars tomorrow" niche.
