How do i get people to join my new social network?

I just got done making a niche social network and i don't know how to convince people to join an empty site am i worrying too much or is this a real concern? My target market is small, and majority currently use a facebook page to network. The page has around 10,000 likes. Thanks.

    Yes, distributing a website is a main concern, and you shouldn't count on people finding it by themselves and inviting their friends to join. Advertise and reach your target audience.

    Also start as many discussions with multiple accounts as possible. This creates social proof. Nobody will join your website if its 100% empty. Make it look at least some populated, then fake it until you make it.

    facebook used to be empty. but it gave them a REASON to join.. at the time there was not much like it. you need to give them a better reason to join.

    Hey dude

    Simple: advertise your product to the target audience. If it caters to their needs, they will sign up. You will however need to spend some money in the beginning to gain some traction like word of mouth, etc.

    For starters, advertise the heck out of it with your facebook page and make them join through that platform. You can also promote that particular facebook page on facebook to get more likes and users ... and then cross-promote your social network that way.

    I would spend a few thousand dollars on Facebook ads (via sponsored posts) and target your main target audience then gauge your results. You won't know until you jump into the cold water and just test it with a few advertising campaigns ... and I believe facebook PPC might be your best bet to begin with and get the ball rolling into the right direction.
