Has anybody had success with twitter?

I have been using twitter for last 3-4 months or so, not to sell anything but just to gain followers for ppc experiences. I get so many dm's from time to time sending me to a link that most likely is a sales pitch.
I like to understand if someone here has had success in actually promoting for whatever they are using twitter?

Somehow I thnk the decision on this one is null. The forum is not really conducive to sales pitches, not to mention the interface looks like crap.

I have had success! I just joined about a month and a half ago, and have gotten sales directly from Twitter. Mind you, I really went full bore with my attention there, there are ways to do things that will get you followers and the right attention.

So, to answer you...yes there is success to be had with Twitter, big time!

The key to Twitter is to promote "discretely". If you simply push people to a squeeze page, they are not likely to do anything. My experience suggests that you must provide great content to attract people to your blog. Have "soft" links to whatever you are promoting - perhaps a free e-book. Put them in your autoresponder and follow up with e-mails to build your relationship with them. Once they feel you are legit and and expert - they will buy from you.

It takes a little time - people love to buy but hate to be SOLD!!!

      Hope that helps.

So Kim, do you provide the link of the product you like to sell in your DM? or once they follow you then you tweet - but who's really reading these tweets with a dozen being flooded every second.. literally.

I have seen sales and customers from twitter, but I can't say how much because I don't track it, don't really know how, haven't spent the time figuring it out. Course mine are just auto rss new product tweets.

One thing I think marketers forget is that people do "search" on twitter. Helps to have keywords in your tweets, plus it could get noticed later on, say from a search.

I've also noticed my tweet url's show up in G.

A number of ways that twitter can bring in sales or traffic.

    Just my thoughts

You may also use Twitter just like another monitoring tool.
Add its search feed to your feedreader,
    e.g.
    Code:
    http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=product+name
and get notified once your or e.g. competitors' products are mentioned on Twitter.

People have had success using Twitter for marketing purposes BUT not usually with blatant direct links to sales pages. They use Twitter to get people to view worthwhile content on their websites that may have sales offers off to the side.

I am just starting to wrap my head around Twitter, but from everything I have read or watched, it seems everyone who is successful with Twitter is NOT blatantly marketing on Twitter. They are using Twitter to build trust and community and they are making sales indirectly as a result of these new relationships.

yes, most of the successes are at those who write about their long before niches ... and promote their website for permanent visitors ... like google for example .... they totally don't need advertising by twitter ... but making posts daily just makes google users feel a part of them ... which guarantees a success to them.

As i wrote in an article ... I think twitter is also a good website to visitor relationship builder. By letting your client be closer to the website you automatically interest other and make them permanent clients. It is way better if you promote a whole website by twitter , not only for a service. By having a whole website you prove you're an experienced in that niche user and people will really trust you in your suggestions.

If you're selling a product ... earn followers trust ... prove you know your product's niche better ... otherwise you're just a cheap affiliate which promotes free , which will make you loose clients.

He has written two quality reports which he is offering for free and he also has a paid product that just went live. I will PM you the links as they are my affiliate links.

First, I have to apologize. I haven't really contributed to this forum enough. Second, I am about to embark on a full on "Twitter Marketing" experiment. I will definitely report back with my findings.

I attended Perry Belcher's Social Media Marketing webinar this past week and was blown away by how he does it. Here are the basics:
    1. Be yourself
    2. Respect your followers by offering valuable content...it doesn't matter what it is, just make if valuable.
    3. The more value you offer, the more your messages will be re-tweeted (a key to gaining a following)
    4. Never send your followers directly to an sales letter or opt-in page without offering value in return. The best value is good content or information that will help them in their niche.
    5. By using this method, eventually you will able to "move" your followers over to your email list, where again you will offer value, and then an occasional offer.

Perry has more methods and in the last year or so, he has grown his following to over 30,000 just on Twitter and he averages earnings of about $1 per month per follower.

I like this guy, and he has some great ideas. Why not follow him on Twitter?

Oh, one more tip. Find someone that is a leader in your niche by using some of the free Twitter apps out there, and begin to follow their followers. On average you will get about 30% to follow you back. I have gone from just under 400 followers to over 700 using this method in just about 2-3 days of actively working this method.

Now is the key, I need to provide good content.

Unfollow those who are not following you. This will make your ratio of following/followers much better, then try again to follow and you'll be successful.

You need to go through and dump your non-followers that you are following. Then you will be able to get more followers.

It's tough to get past the 2000 limit at first. But once you do, it gets easier. There are still following limits, but they gradually grow to the point where they don't matter that much anymore.

Ive had great success on twitter i took to it like a duck to water. I joined at christmas and now have around 55,000 followers my twitter ebooks have made me a great income and ive built my blog up from scratch. Ive advertised it through twitter and as a result six months later with very little effort and about 2 posts a week it has a page rank of 2 and lots of google search first pages.

It all depends on whether or not you want to put the effort in or get it.

    kind regards

I know a few businesses increasing their sales from Twitter. For example, I know a photographer who takes photos of the sun rise every morning for christening presents / new born baby gifts etc. He does a Twitter search to see what people are talking about new babys and then sends them a link to his website.

I don't think direct sales will work on twitter as the audience is not there looking to 'buy' anything. Yeah they may like to see relevant information per their niche, and then optin

Nope, you need to get more followers by following others (ususally 50% follow you back). Then twitter about what your niche is.

This is what I'm starting to do now - build genuine follower base with real tweats and not some feed or program just spamming all day long. I'm tracking and surprised to see how many folks click on my links - no I'm not pointing them to sales pages.

Learn marketing and social strategy instead of thinking in terms of spamming. Twitter is conductive to marketing, but only along the classic two-step lines. If you just sit around blatantly spamming like any unimaginative porn pusher you'll make nothing and you'll deserve every penny.

You want to build up a following of people who know, like and trust you with their time and attention and who'll click through to what you offer. But that only works if you demonstrate to the people following you that you're worth paying attention to first. You've gotta give value to get value.

It's still marketing, but it's more Seth Godin than Spamford Wallace - you're at the world's biggest floating cocktail party and can join in any conversation going on at the moment. If you step up and mingle and share in the conversation you'll have the know, like, and trust bit covered and can move people's attention where you want it.

If you're trying to direct sell, you're "that guy". You know the one. You're at your cousin's wedding, and "that guy" whips out his business card and tries to pitch you his MLM in the reception line and again over drinks after dinner.

You're at your high school reunion, and "that guy" whips out his business card and tries to sell you insurance when you ask him what he's up to these days.

You're at the church social, and there's "that guy" trying to sell you aluminum siding over the potato salad.

On twitter, don't be "that guy".

I got lucky and made some sales on Twitter, but only after building a relationship and it turned out the purchaser who I've since met in person, had been introduced to the product by someone else previously.

Good reminder that it is important to have multiple touch points in marketing. Think more about campaign rather than just one promotion. Get past the three or so times that it takes for someone to make their mind up to purchase. Make sure you're there still when they do. Some people even take as many as seven iterations before the buying decision, so make sure you're persistent. Like a kid does when it really wants a new toy... it just keeps asking over and over. Of course we need to be more subtle as adults or you kill the relationship and get blocked!

I have the most success with LIST BUILDING!

It's simple really - The more followers you have the more your Tweets spread.

      9/1 ratio..

9 regular tweets about my life, and then 1 that says something like "Get $10 a day on Twitter.

Free Guide here: h++p://budurl.com/XXXX pls Retweet"

(I made the guide myself BTW - simple 13 pg PDF with images)

      I get 10 signups a day MINIMUM

I then sell to the email list Frank Kern style..

Ok, this is not meant to be harsh but...

They don't care about what you are saying (tweeting).

It is like email, it must be "relevant" to them.

What are you trying to get them to to do?

Think small, relevant steps in your marketing efforts.

Yes i use twitter a lot to build relationships and to get free traffic to my websites. You need to have targeted followers that have the same interest as you to get traffic. But twitter works well

It depends how many and what type of followers you have. If you are having less then 1000 followers and they are from south asia its kinna difficult to make money via twitter.

There is this program that I bought. It automatic builds twitter list for you and at the same time promotes what you are marketing. I have had some success with it so far but Im waiting to see some more since I just bought it. I think its good and you will be amazed at it. I got it from magiclisbot.com

Twitter can be quite effective when used properly! Building relationships on Twitter with your followers is of paramount importance. The site attracts alot of spammers, and marketers who put the effort into building relationships will clobber competition. Also, Check out john reese's blog on why Twitter auto - follow is a bad idea

That's what I 'used' to think.. not anymore. Now that I have more than more than 7K followers I see clicks and traffic from twitter to the sites I promote.

I find people do click on my links when I tweet. Twitter have definitely help increased my web traffic. Had a couple of sale from there too. I tweet the products I sell about 3 times a day and the rest I do retweet or news tweet. Slow but seems to work alright.

I have a bunch of great info in this ebook I wrote. Here's a small piece and if you like it, I'll give it to you in a link at the end.
Chapter 5 What the heck does dating have to do with getting people to buy my stuff?

What the DOES dating have to do with getting people to buy my stuff? Well, they both start with relationship building.

To illustrate how relationship building on the Internet really works, here's a quick story about an average guy... we'll call him Rick.

Things had never come easily for Rick, but he worked hard and landed a decent job after graduating from college.

Now that he was employed, he figured it was a good time to get married, settle down and start a family. So he was ready to go searching for 'Miss Right'.

One Friday night, Rick gets a call from his buddy who tells him about a great new bar that was opening up down the street from where he lived.

They both meet up and after nursing an iced cold one for a few minutes, he looks past the crowd... and there she was... Samantha, the girl of his dreams.
Rick fixes his hair, straightens his collar and walks right over to her...
    Their eyes meet, sparks fly...
He reaches out to shake her hand and says:

    "Hi. Will you marry me?"

    "Whoa!! Stop right there creep!"

Talk about putting the cart before the horse!!
It's obvious that this approach doesn't work in the real world, yet, this is exactly what most online marketers are doing to build their business. It's no wonder why most of them fail; they're so impatient, they propose even before the "first date"!

i made this little tool (it's about 5 lines of PHP code) for finding people who mention search terms e.g. iphone from certain areas of the world e.g sydney.

all you have to do is type in the search term, drop the map marker on the google map from where you want it to return tweets from, specify the zone radius and hit go.

      w w w*trolleyblog*dot*c0m / leechtwit

it then returns up to the last 1000 tweeters from that area to mention that search term. in a nice formatted table

      think presell.

      as an example.

you can use it to search for people in australia talking up the new iphone 3g when you know it hasn't been released there yet..... let your own imagination do the rest!

      hope someone finds it useful!

          hmmm,

i dont really know how much more intuitive i can make it!

the idea is to return a list of ULTRA-targetted twitter users that are using specific search terms in a specific area for preselling certain products.

Twitter is meant for exchanging short messages. Though many persons claim to have success in doing affiliate marketing but I too do doubt its effectiveness. But it can obviously used to gain followers and promote your site or blog.

Twitter has been very successful for me as an AUTOMATED way of generating leads.

The keys to the system are:

    1) TARGETING - You must have targeted prospects and so following each and every person on Twitter is useless. Only follow people who are targeted. I have a system that I set up to be automated that I might do as a WSO or do a post on one day, that goes through and finds highly targeted prospects based on the keywords they post about and their information and usernames

    2) VOLUME - you gotta hit it big on Twitter you can't only follow a couple people because the CTR isn't there. So most people's problem is that they don't know how to follow enough people who are targeted towards their offer.

Either way Twitter is responsible for about $100 a day for me right now, BUT I had to do some testing to find out which offer converted for that traffic. Hint: it's an under $5 payout and doesn't require 25+.

I'm not doing direct sales on twitter, but yes newsletter and optin works very well. Like Glen mentioned, I'm targeting the followers who are interested in what I have to say and this makes the job much easier for a marketer.

What do you mean by success?

I think the only thing Twitter is good for is giving people the perception that you have lots of followers. This might impress people who don't know anything about twitter

John Reese just sent out an email saying he has deleted his Twitter account. I think this is going to happen a lot. Twitter is just a distraction and probably not worth your time. How many tweets of total strangers do you read every day?
