How does CPV and PPV work from the user's perspective?

I understand the concept from the advertiser and affiliate perspective.

But it is not clear to me HOW those ads appear as a pop-under or pop-up in the user's screen.

I mean, I can't understand how a user searching on google suddenly sees a pop-up or pop under or a user seeing one specific product on Amazon suddenly sees a pop-up or pop-under in his screen.

Is it like adware? or any kind of virus or browser addon?

I want to understand it from the internet surfer perspective.

Thanks!

  • From what I have understood, they install free software or games and then they are eligible to receive all the pop ups and pop unders..
  • The users who install the toolbar will see the popup when they enter the URL that there are some people bidding on.
  • Yes, they are adware, you install their stuff and now people can target you as per which URL you visit..
  • It's called adware, typically this is distributed from anything from a screensaver package, to browser toolbar, downloadable games, or any piece of software really
  • It's intrusive marketing...

unlike ppc where people are actively searching for something and they see your AD on the side. The visitor chooses to click on your AD.

, usually the visitor has some kind of adware (like a toolbar) and when they search online your giant AD will POP up and intrude on them.

You can target your AD to appeal to them since you can have it pop up on a niche related domain or keyword.

that being said, you need to make your ad extremely absurd or compelling to have them click through with a simple yet powerful call to action.

Make sure to track everything (prosper, cpvlab etc....) and split test offers and landers to find your winners. 50 on red is a platform that I've had some success with. You might want to try them first..

    best of luck,

  • Aizaku already explained it pretty well, but it's not an automatic process where the user is just exposed to those ads. They are performing some kind of action that allows for those ads to pop-up, pop-under, etc. in their browser.

Toolbars or other web applications that are downloaded are the most common way this is done. I'm sure you've come across these yourself as a user if you're on the web regularly.
