What am I doing wrong with PPV?

I'm just getting my feet wet with PPV. Set up a campaign with Mediatraffic for a 2 page submit in the real estate/foreclosure niche. I used Spyfu to snag competitors keywords and built up a list of several thousand along with the top 25-30 domains. Supplemented with keywords using Market Samurai. I'm direct linking to the offer. So far I've gotten about 750 clicks and no conversions. Questions:

What are the best types of offers for PPV? Should i be going with the free gift cards and email/zip submits or ones with higher payouts?

Should I be more stingy with keywords? I could just pick out 25-50 highly targeted keywords more conversion oriented as opposed to thousands. Is that better?

What about using no keywords and JUST targeting the top 10-20 websites for my niche?

What am I doing wrong or do I need to give it more time?

Make sure u track all keywords, after testing, remove the keywords which are not working and scale up with profitable keywords.

None of the keywords are working right now. So what's a sufficient test period?

Have you had 750 views or 750 clicks to your offer?

Generally with PPV you are better off using urls as your keywords.

Instead of a time frame for test period, I have my budget capped. So lets say I have a daily budget of $25 for PPV impressions and if I make 2 sales work $10 each (still negative $5), I'll track with keywords are costing me money and eliminate those.

PPV is very tricky, you need to track and track very well..

I'd recommend trying an offer with less fields as well

      Webatomic,

      1. Your big mistake is using "keywords".

For CPV, you only want to target URL's.

      2. Also, make certain that you track and analyze what is converting and just as important, what is not. Make sure you get a tracking pixel back from the CPV network and place it in your CPA offer's landing page. You may need your CPA AM to do this depending on the network.

      3. Then optimize your campaign.

      Regards,

      John

ps - I just spilled one of the biggest secrets to success in #2 & #3 above.

Throw those keywords in a Google/Yahoo URL Scraper. Use the URLs as you 'keywords'.

Making a difference. Thanks! BTW, which networks provide the most traffic? I'm with Mediatraffic right now and they seem pretty good.

You should check out TrafficVance. Although I think they require someone to refer you in now and they have a min. deposit of $500. Still, you will get a lot of traffic from them.

Zango (adservices.zango.com) starts at .015 but it varies by category and location

Sometimes how you classify can affect min. bid While I would not recommend a blatant miscategorization, sometimes two categories will be accurate and one will be cheaper

Adonnetwork actually starts at .005 My experience with them is less traffic than Zango or mediatraffic but the deposit is low

I believe TrafficVance upped their minimum to $1000 as well as requiring referral.

OK, starting to get some conversions. Unfortunately, still a negative ROI. Yes, I will eliminate keywords that are not working and tweak things. Right now I'm in a testing phase though and I have a few questions. I'm testing a variety of niches/offers to see what works. The email submits are what convert for me right now, but the payouts aren't high enough to give me a positive ROI yet. Maybe tweaking my keywords and URLs and tightening the targeting will help. The other offers aren't converting at all, but I've only let them run for a day ($10 cap). I can play around with those as well and tweak the keywords/URLS, but it seems like it's a big leap from getting someone to enter a zip or an email address to getting someone to pull out their credit card, even to pay $1.95 for shipping and handling. Any tips on getting these higher paying offers to convert? And how much money/time do you think is sufficient before giving up on an offer? Also, do you find a big difference in conversions from PPV network to network? I can try moving some of these campaigns to a different network also. I just don't want to burn through a ton of money testing different ideas and would rather there be some method to the madness. I am encouraged by the steady conversions though and can definitely see the huge upside to this, once I get things rolling.

There are no hard and fast rules on what always works. You absolutely have to test and track everything. You can find crazy differences (I say crazy because there is no logical or consistent reason) among networks. I currently use zango, mediatraffic and adonnetwork and the same exact keyword/landing page will be a total negative (no conversions on one) and great ROI on another. The crazy part is that it is inconsistent, so you can't say one company is consistently better than another.

You might want to experiment with sending to specific pages instead of general url meaning:

domain.com/page instead of domain.com This allows you to target better, and eliminate some unnecessary views.

Are the min. CPVs for adon and zango 0.015? I know for DirectCPV they're 0.010., but they don't have a lot of traffic right now either.

Lead Impact bought out Zango...basically same thing just a differen't name now.

Traffic Vance has more traffic than Media Traffic but they have a $1k minimum deposit and it's difficult to get into the network. Media Traffic is a great place to start.
