Is Starting an Amazon Site from Scratch worth it?

I allways been interested in creating an Amazon site, but never had the time. Now I have the time but I am not sure if it is worth it (economically speaking). So I ask for help.

I have no previous domain or traffic, that is why I am not sure if the financials will work.

My idea is to bring traffic to my amazon site through PPC.

So the question would be: has anyone made PPC -> Amazon Site profitable?

It is possible? Should I test it?

Thanks for any tips!

PPC is quite expensive to begin with and sales based stuff isn't that easy to convert ... plus the margins aren't that large. So my personal recommendation would be to stay away from sales based stuff with low margins, especially if it's physical goods that require to be shipped as well.

I found it's much easier to get paid via CPA or per Inquiry/Form Submission instead, as the conversions are much easier to get. So PPC -> CPA site is much more lucrative in my opinion compared to sales based stuff like Amazon or other Retail Sites where you earn a commission ONLY if someone pulls out his credit card.

    Hope that helps

Thanks! I was always exceptic about those form submission offers as I always run away when I see a site like that. Also they all seem to pay very little.

Do they work well for you? is there much volume to make decent numbers?

Thanks a lot for your time!

Bing ads is one of the most popular PPC networks to promote Amazon products because-
      • their traffic is decent quality
      • the cost of clicks isn't too expensive
      • their landing page requirements aren't as strict as Google AdWords.

Using PPC, to have a realistic chance of making an ROI, you need to promote products which have a payout of ideally at least $10. If you bid on only buyer keywords instead of general product keywords such as Coleman Tent then this maximizes your chances of making an ROI.

In short, it is possible, but don't promote products which only pay about $4 or $5 in commission.

While that is true, isn't the CPC much higher for the type of offers you promote in the lead gen category?

I am not sure, I will check their ToS. I think it is OK if you disclose you are an associate. Also I am not sure how they will know where is the traffic to your site is coming from. But I will definitely double check.
