Building an Adwords Campaign

Hey warriors the purpose of this thread is to track my adwords campaign so all you warriors can see what I have done wrong and what I've done right. Your suggestions or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated as I update this from day to day. I may provide some camtasia videos to better help both you and myself. This is really my first serious campaign im running as I hope it's a keeper. As for the past day this is what I've completed.

1. set up a campaign with 1 ad group so far
2. I got 57 keywords in place (these include broad, exact, and phrase matches)
i decided to start out with 57 keywords cause I felt it would be easier for me to track and then begin to build my keyword list from there.
3. I have two ads that are testing currently
4. I have a squeeze page set up that directs to a clickbank product (Im testing which keywords are getting me sales. Still wondering how I can do some A/B split testing for my squeeze page)
5. I have optimized my squeeze page with a contact us, terms, privacy, about us, and a site map
6. I have included the root keyword of the adgroup in part of my url
7. my ads are rotating equally so i can get a fair idea of which is performing better
8. Im only doing google search

that's all I can think of right now I'll update if I feel I have missed something else

Here are my results so far after almost 1 day

30 clicks with 562 impressions = 5.34% ctr
avg cost per click = $0.32

right now clickbank is performing maintenance so i can't see my stats so ill update them later today.

There is still 1 thing I need to track and I'm hoping someone can answer it for me:

How do I track my clicks to my landing page and see what is converting there so how do I go about tracking conversions on my landing page and clickbank at the same time?

Clickbank has an own conversion tracking tool where you can enter your adwords code - it's in the "Account Settings". Be aware that there seem to be some problems though: http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-netwo...-tracking.html

The tracking will work through your landing page to the order page.

To track CTRs etc. on your landing page and to know how many users click to the order page, I personally used Google Analytics with Goals. A Goal was a Click Through to the order page.

Btw. doing Adwords campaigns without tracking conversions is also known as "suicide"

    Jelder,

Without knowing the product or niche, it's not easy to give advice, but I would say 57 keywords in one ad group is too many. Also watch out for those broad match terms, they can burn your budget very quickly with little result. be sure to monitor what search terms triggered your ad.

Are you first wanting to track the lead opting in to your own list ?

Setting up more than one ad group is best. I've been slapped by Google in the past until I started using Wordpress blogs instead of sending people to squeeze pages with no content. Hopefully your squeeze page has content...using iframes can be controversial

    Google Analytics for tracking.

the product is no nonsense by vince delmonte. I actually bought the product and its got some pretty good info plus I like the health niche and learning more about it. Yes dave that's correct I would like to track conversions on my own list if I can do that.

Also, Should I eliminate the broad matching keywords altogether?

If you are new to this, I would not start with broad match, or at least not without a very detailed negative keyword list. With broad match in the health and fitness niche I would not be surprised google shows your ad for a number of terms you don't want clicks for.

To track the the optin, you need to put the google conversion tracking code on your thank you page when the user confirms their email address, you will then know what keyword brought you the new subscriber.

The most important thing you need to do with your ppc campaign is at least track conversions at keyword level to your own list.

      Hope this helps

      Dave

      Google uses cookies.

You can read about conversion tracking on their site here AdWords Conversion Tracking Setup Guide - AdWords Help

ok this is what I have set up now:

    - I have my ads directing (linking) toward my landing page http://www.mysite.com/page.php
    - from there they enter their name and email which takes them to the confirmation page to confirm

I have put a snippet of code on the thank you page for conversion tracking and have also put code on my landing pages for google analytics.

does this mean that google conversion will track my conversions and what keyword led to the conversion

    Thanks everyone

Yes, Adwords conversion tracking will do that.
Analytics will just track your traffic now.

When I used to do Google Ads for clients, I always set up 3 ads ... and would continually bin the worst performing one. 3 gave me more to watch and I felt more definite stats on what was good or not. If you have two poor performers that work similarly then you won't know if they're both good or both bad.
