Best practice for digital display ads - are you doing this?

Hi Everyone

I just came across an article that outlines best practice for digital display ads, I think on the most part I do most of this but could be a good resource for some of the newcomers on here to IM and advertising.

Here's the short version of what they suggest:

Have a clear CTA and ensure that is it actionable
Whether you have 'Download Now', 'Shop Now', 'Buy Now', 'Learn More' or anything else, make sure you have a call to action telling the viewer what you want them to do.

Have a hero image
Just one awesome image can make a huge impact - if you look back to some good display ads there will usually be a great hero image that is eye catching.

Have clear branding
Don't forget your branding and logo on the ad, including colours, fonts and any other elements which showcases your brand that you use across other mediums.

Include an offer or a promotion
Whether you include a discount or something for free, including an offer is key to a display ad.

Add in a headline
Get your viewers attention with a headline that stops them in their tracks. If you can tap into their pain points this will also help and allow you the insight to create the perfect headline.

Make sure your ad and your landing page match
Ensuring that your advertising and your landing page match makes the viewer confident they have gone to the right place. If you need to create another landing page to match then do it, it's a really important step in the process.

Make ads the right size
This is simple yet isn't always done. Get the specs and follow them to the letter.

Test your ads
Don't assume your ad is incredible and will be a raging success, test it and tweak it to make sure it is targeting your customer correctly.
