I want to hear about the losers

If someone on this forum has lost all their money and/or fallen flat on their face then what they need to do is put their wallet/purse away and read. There is so much information here on how to truly succeed at CPA in a safe manner. I really hope that there are no members here who have had that happen to them.

The number one reason people fail is they like to read about things, but NOT take any action. That's almost a guaranteed failure right there.

I guess those who really lost a lot are being too shy to share their story. Maybe I should ask another question to those who have been successful. What is the most money you have lost in a day or month only to be recovered in a future date?

I'm not dwelling on the losses here, just getting feedback from those who have experienced it first-hand. That is also why I am asking about the time it took to recover the losses and bounce back. I am new to the game, so I am adding this to my research and discovery to uncover any methods that people have used when losing a lot of money. Bouncing back from a loss is what I am wanting to hear about, and the methods for recovery.

Well I guess since everyone else is chicken I'll post a story about a loss. Now I was promoting an actual real business service in the technology consulting field, but someone might benefit.

About a year ago I wanted to start marketing my consulting company through Google Adwords. The competition is pretty fierce for the main keywords "custom software" or "software development". But I thought I'd give it a try.

I couldn't seem to get any better CPC rates than around $5/click. Since the dollar value of a sale is pretty high, that's not terribly out there I guess. But, after I launched the ads, the only consistent calls I received were from either competitors looking for intel, or sales reps trying to sell things to me. It's pretty upsetting to be paying Google $5 so that some sales rep can fill their pipeline.

I decided to hire a well known and respected Google Adwords Certified Company to help manage my campaign and help me figure out what I was doing so wrong as to get those high click through rates. Their fee was $1000/month to manage the account. After several months of that they were unable to make any improvement in the cost or return. I learned what they did to manage an account though, and it's nothing more than basic adwords management. But I bought into the concept of an "expert" who know some "secrets".

So I lost some money there. But I did learn some lessons. At least now I won't be wondering whether there are some secret tricks or not.

One thing I would point out is that everyone who is ever successful is a "loser" at some point, and at maybe at many points, along the way.

I lost over 200 dollars a day in Adwords. Due to rushing to load keywords and not doing lateral thinking just going to deep in research. Rushing in and not thinking things through. Also, not pruning my bad keywords. But, Also I have had some nice successes not in millions but bill paying worthy =)

Its not a good thing to read about people losing money.Lets look at the better side of life.

DaveN, I'm looking for these stories for learning opportunities and seeing both sides of the playinng field. What's wrong with learning from mistakes? We can learn from those who have fallen so we don't fall into the same traps or common mistakes people might do when starting out.

I don't know about you but when I read the few stories posted above, my interest in IM has somewhat diminished. I guess you're a very determined person to want to hear about losses so that you can avoid the mistakes. But sometimes, reading about so many downfalls might just make you wanna quit and stay safe. But that's for you to decide.

there aren't that many people that didn't lose money to begin with when getting into IM. I have been doing this for 8 years and the ones that make it sound easy are full of it.

Just make sure you learn something from every campaign you run. Positive or negative ROI.

Can you really say you ever lost if you have learned a valuable lesson in the process?
I am still new to this game, but if and when I spend I make sure that I can afford to lose that money and that I get as much info as I possibly can. This way I am assured of a positive return, if the venture did not work out and the money is spent, well this was another workshop.
Can't lose that way.

I lost about $300 over the weekend once because I stopped in the middle of setting up my campaign on Adwords on Friday...I was actually sending traffic to a dead link and didn't realize it until Monday when I picked up where I left off.

I do not consider myself to be a loser, but I did lose around $2500 till the end of last year in my attempt to be an Internet marketier. Ever since I joined Warrior forum, I do not waste money on purchasing useless stuff. I learn a lot every day from warrior forum just by reading various posts. I have purchased a couple of WSOs from here but have not made any money because I have not put them to use yet. I am currently trying to work hard to lay a foundation for myself. I believe that any person who starts off with Internet Marketing always loses some money. Even though I lost so much money, I still feel confident that I can earn a lot in the coming months due to the knowledge I acquired from the Warrior Forum. I like what Lincoln said:

"If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six hours sharpening my axe"

If you dive into PPC, chances are you will start out in the negative. Thats the nature of the beast, youve got to do a lot of testing before you find a winner and before you optimize that winner.

When I first started I made that same mistake.


What I tell people now when they are first starting is this....YOU WILL NEVER LOSE MONEY. You may lose time but you can never lose money if you dont want to and this is how...

Start out using free methods. It takes longer, but it works. Then use this money to invest in PPC. This way, you can never lose money, just time.

Try starting a blog. Try doing seo (prob not easy if youre new) Try usign classifieds like craigslist, they do work. Or try getting off your chair and plastering flyers promoting an offer all over the place. Flyer drops can make you hundreds of $$s per weekend. Use this money to reinvest in PPC

PS: I forgot you have to buy a domain name even for free methods, so you will have to invest $2.99 in a cheap domain like .info or something.



Anyway, my point of this post is to let you know that there are ways of approaching this business without a ton of risk. If you arent comfortable with how internet marketing works, dont spend hundreds per day testing out ppc.
