Is it possible to target people that went to a specific store with fb ads?

Hello I have a brick and mortar store and I am trying to get more clients using facebook ads. I ran an ad some time ago and the results were as follows:
Links Clicks: 291
Reach: 10,167
CPC: $0.87
Amount Spent: $252
Frequency: 2.2
Impressions: 22,406

At the end of the campaign I did not get results. I feel that part of it is due to my targeting audience. Being a physical store I am only looking to target right within my local area, but I was wondering if it would be possible to target a person that went into a competitors store?

  • You could probably try targeting people who are into DIY - search hobby facebook pages for things like BBQs, Deckings, fireplaces etc.

If your competitors have facebook pages, then you can target their page in the interests section.

Suggestion - Target locally and then narrow down by interest. If you live in a tiny town you have have to also target out of towners depending on how much product you want to move.

    • I live in a big metro area and was able to narrow down from 240,000 to 20,000 and I did target competitors pages as well.

  • OP, You're better off using FB app-based coupon promotions

    • what marketing objective do you go with when doing this?
  • The reason you haven't had any results may be because you've not targeted the right audience. I'm not sure about the others on this site, but a method I use to measure whether or not I've hit the right audience is to check the organic/paid ratio. If the paid is higher than the organic reach you haven't hit the right people. Maybe do a little bit of research and figure out your average customer's age, gender, income, job titles, page likes, etc. Then send an ad to that group, you may be more likely to produce results. I'm still new to advertising, you may be better off taking the advice from a more experienced member here, but that's my two cents. Thanks for reading.

    • My paid is deff higher compared to organic. I put some serious thought into the demographics of who I come across as the typical person walking into the pharmacy that leaves happy and narrowed it down from 240,000 potential targets to 20,000 by targeting m/f 35+, 35+ with an interests for the following: Aldi, Rite Aid, CVS Pharmacy, Pharmacy, Walgreens, Walmart, Target Corporation, T.J.Maxx or Marshalls.
  • So the store I am doing the ad for is a pharmacy in a major metropolitan area (yes it is legal and registered in the state we do business in). Here is how I set up my target audience. By neighboring zipcodes I had the potential to reach 240,000 people with no specifics narrowing down. Based on my in person interactions on a daily basis, I believe people as low as 30's are clients I can sell our services too, and of course the elderly so I set age range to 35+ make and female. Being that it is a pharmacy, for interests I selected target people with the following interests: Aldi, Rite Aid, CVS Pharmacy, Pharmacy, Walgreens, Walmart, Target Corporation, T.J.Maxx or Marshalls. After taking into account the age/gender and interests fb narrowed down to a potential reach of 20,000 people and the results I posted were a result of that setup.

Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks
  • Did you target all of the following in a single adset or did you create a separate adset for each?

Aldi, Rite Aid, CVS Pharmacy, Pharmacy, Walgreens, Walmart, Target Corporation, T.J.Maxx or Marshalls.

You ideally want to create an adset for each interest. Also, set up separate campaigns based on placement...News feed, mobile, right side and only run one ad per adset.

This way you are breaking down everything and able to see much more defined statistics and find any winners.
