FB Ads impossible for me?

I have a shop that has about 1% conversion rate and I makes about $30 per sale.
Will FB ads always be too expensive for me?
2 years ago I briefly looked into it and got the impression that a click would cost me around $0.6, which makes it impossible.
Yet I regularly see ads on FB for products I really can't believe would convert over 1%, or for affiliate stuff where the marketer will only get a commission.
How are they profitable?
What am I missing here?

Could an experienced FB Ads marketer enlighten me?

What countries can you accept traffic from?

Have you tried any optimization to bring up your conversion rate?

I didn't even try, just looked vaguely into it and concluded it was too expensive for me.
I have to work first on optimizing my site yes.

same for me it is too expensive well I'm into CPA or Affiliate things but I've a website monetized with adsense and I need some one to click on my boring ads I tried to do that unfortunately it coasts me 1.6$ a click CPC is too high,
some people get 0.005$ per click and they're far far away from letting us know how they did it :/

I'm not 100% sure but I think that's only possible with post engagement ads.
If you're selling any kind of product it's going to cost you at least $0.2, which would still be a great improvement.

But it also comes down to the countries one is targeting right?

I believe demographics has a big role to play here...

Good question. I came up with two FB campaigns promoting the same ad. Both set for only a short time, just for few days, a week tops. To get an idea on how it works or what results to expect. And came into the same conclusion, that both the pay-per-click and pay-per-impressions costs were a little expensive. Unless some other FB marketers out there has the stats to show us otherwise?
